We recently connected with Shay Moore and have shared our conversation below.
Shay, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Success begins with having a clear sense of purpose knowing what you’re aiming for and defining what it means on your own terms. It takes discipline and consistency, showing up day after day even when motivation fades. A growth mindset and the willingness to learn from failure are essential, as setbacks are part of the journey. Surrounding yourself with supportive, driven people keeps you grounded and motivated. Resilience allows you to keep going through challenges, and adaptability ensures you can adjust when circumstances change. Ultimately, success is defined by what you deem as successful, you have a vision for yourself and it’s up to you to follow through with the plan.

Shay, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve been in the kitchen since I was a child, baking and cooking alongside my grandmother, where my love for creating comforting, delicious food first began. After serving in the military and retiring from the Army, I found myself pregnant and planning my own baby shower. That’s when I decided to tap back into my creative side and make the cake myself a two tier, circus themed cake that reignited my passion for baking. I fell in love with the art of decorating and started making cakes for birthdays and special occasions for friends and family.
While in the Army, I also sold and styled hair, so entrepreneurship was always in me. I eventually rebranded my Instagram page to “Moore Sweets” and began posting consistently, taking orders, and investing in my new-found love. As I grew, I stayed committed to learning and developing a style that felt personal and different. I wanted to create traditional, soulful flavors like the ones I made with my grandmother desserts that brought back memories of favorite aunts, grandmas, and family gatherings. Moore Sweets is more than a bakery it’s a brand built on passion, purpose, and legacy. I’m committed not just to baking, but to giving back, sponsoring school sports teams and supporting local kids. I believe this business is bigger than me it’s about community, tradition, and love baked into every bite.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I funded my business using savings I diligently built while serving in the Army, and I also leveraged business credit to support and grow my brand.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building my brand on social media started with simply being consistent—showing what I do while sharing glimpses of my life. I focused on creating a brand that felt personal, not just posting cake photos, but also offering tips, sharing my journey, and growing alongside my audience.
