We recently connected with Shay Jackson and have shared our conversation below.

Shay, appreciate you joining us today. Can you share a story about the kindest thing someone has done for you and why it mattered so much or was so meaningful to you?

My mentor Bonnie Johnson paid my way through Healing Beyond Borders and through massage therapy.

I was in college taking U.S. History and Philosophy at the same time and that sent me on a quest to find God. I found God within the Chakra system. During my spiritual journey I was figuring out my worth and I quit the call center job I had been working at for years. My sister got me a job cleaning houses, Angel Maids. They sent me to clean their top clients house. As soon as I walked in the pictures of chakras and energy centers distracted me. We talked and I then found out I had walked into Bonnie Johnson home, one of the best Practitioners/Teachers/Mentors of Healing Touch. She offered to pay my way through Healing Beyond Borders and later through Nashville School of Massage Therapy changing my life forever.

Shay, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I’m Chakra Shay. I am an energy healer, Certified Healing Touch Practitioner and Reiki Master. I teach yoga and lead guided meditations. I also cohost community events in Nashville. I started studying chakras in my personal life while in college and working full time at a call center and being a mom. I started off very basic learning the chakras and learning how to balance my own. I met my mentor Bonnie Johnson and she paid my way through Healing Beyond Borders and massage school. During my apprenticeship with Bonnie I had to write case studies proving my healing abilities as well as see 100 clients. During this time I got the actual experience with the chakra systems learning patterns in people. My cousin was murdered the day I met Bonnie and she helped me with my grief and my depression by receiving Healing Touch and meditation. I really wanted to bring this to the community so for my community project I came up with an event Soulful Sunday where I lead a self chakra balance, Chakra meditation and educate on a specific crystal. My cohost is an herbalist/ Reiki Master and she brings an herb and we educate on the chakra system and healing. Over the years I also became a Reiki Master and I went through Yoga Teacher Training. The services I provide to my clients are Energy Healing, Yoga, Meditation, Chakra &/or Oracle Readings, I make Shay Butta and have a Chakra Clothing line. The majority of what I do helps combat depression, anxiety, high blood pressure, sleep, focus, and healing and general wellbeing. What sets me apart from others is my specific set of trainings. Some other Reiki Masters that I know and are my friends/peers have tantra or herbalism and are very good at what they do as well. It’s about going to who you resonate with. My focus is to enlighten who I come in contact with the Chakra System and benefits to balancing them. I am most proud of speaking about Chakras at Vanderbilt. I want my potential clients to know that Chakras are energy centers in our energetic body and balancing them will create peace physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?

At the end of 2020 I ended up on crutches for six weeks and I had to temporarily close my business I lost the majority of my clientele during that time. Not being able to work sent me back in a depression. With the tools meditation, yoga, and energy healing I was able to pull myself back out I am still building my business back from this setback. I had to pivot by offering online classes, offering classes at my home and becoming mobile and traveling to my clients. I started offering other products, vending, and using social media to offer services.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?

The majority of my clientele has been from word of mouth which I am very thankful for.
