We were lucky to catch up with Shawnnah Drey recently and have shared our conversation below.
Shawnnah, appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Our mission is to make sustainability and clean living easier and accessible. Coming from a large family where we had to make dollar stretch so reusing and repurposing was out of necessity not a trend. Now I understand that clean and green products are often at a premium price point, so I do my best to keep product costs low. We make our store accessible by allowing in store pickup, and offering curbside and delivery options.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I came from a large family as I mentioned before but was also part of the “save the whales” generation. I became super concerned about the way we were impacting our planet. As I got older and worked in the beauty industry as an esthetician I realized how we absorbed so many chemicals topically. This made me even more concerned by the everyday products we use that end up in our water. It became my mission to provide a refillery with clean products safe to use around your kids and pets but most importantly biodegradable and safe to go back into the earth. I am also a Hispanic woman and a mother, and I realize that many people like me don’t have space in the business world. So I make conscious effort to purchase from companies that not only uphold my same values, but to purchase from small, women owned businesses or businesses in marginalized groups. This is my way of keeping my values and doing a “double good”.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
We send email blasts to our customers to help with sales and marketing. This lets them know of new products, sales or changes in policy. We also use our socials to our advantage and we are often involved in community events.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
We have had quite a few challenges especially early on, we had our sidewalk torn up for months that slowed traffic and we had to pivot and change hours, offer delivery and do more pop ups.
