Alright, Shawneé thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.

My parents created an environment where creativity was encouraged and supported, which played a major role in shaping who I am today. They gave me the freedom to explore my ideas without limitations, whether it was art, film, or any other passion I wanted to pursue. They never hesitated to invest in my future, whether through resources or emotional support, and most importantly, they never made me feel like anything was out of reach. That foundation of belief in my potential gave me the confidence to chase my dreams and trust that I could turn them into reality. Their unwavering support and encouragement have not only shaped my career but have also instilled a mindset of possibility that I carry with me in everything I do.

Shawneé, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I’ve always been passionate about storytelling, which began with my love for theater in high school. I studied fine arts at Howard University, where I discovered my love for directing and producing. This led me to an apprenticeship at a non-profit, where I learned everything from graphic design to guerrilla marketing to keep the organization afloat. It was a challenging but transformative experience that helped me realize my passion for marketing.

I now run The Marketers Agency, where we provide tools, resources, and opportunities for fellow marketers elevate their careers through content based opportunities and experiential networking. I want potential clients and followers to know that our mission goes beyond just community and content. We’re here to support and uplift young professionals, offering a space where they can grow, learn, and collaborate. Whether it’s through our services or the connections we foster, The Marketers Agency is about creating meaningful experiences and helping the next generation of marketers thrive.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

What helped build my reputation in the market is staying connected to people in my field that I genuinely want to support, and constantly surrounding myself with individuals who inspire me. I believe that the company you keep plays a huge role in how you grow, and I’ve always prioritized building relationships with like-minded professionals. Moving with a sense of integrity has been crucial as well—staying true to my values, delivering on promises, and always putting in the work to achieve high-quality results have earned me trust and respect in the industry.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?

A lesson I had to unlearn is the belief that I could do everything on my own. For a long time, I tried to tackle everything solo, thinking that if I didn’t do it myself, it wouldn’t be done right. But I realized that this mindset was holding me back. I had to take the time to truly learn myself and recognize that I thrive when I can collaborate, partner, and outsource. It wasn’t just about efficiency; it was also a spiritual awakening for me. I realized that God has to be a part of every decision I make—trusting in Him, leaning on His guidance, and allowing others to help me on my journey. The backstory here is the time wasted trying to be a lone soldier in life, which ultimately got me nowhere. Once I embraced partnership and faith, everything started to flow.
