We were lucky to catch up with Shawna Mang recently and have shared our conversation below.
Shawna, appreciate you joining us today. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
I’ve loved flowers my whole life. I love their beauty and the connection that they bring between moments and people we hold dear. I love the way they convey what words cannot. They communicate our deepest feelings when words do not suffice and their presence in a room can instantly comfort and bring joy. I have always been creative, and I have always enjoyed different elements and mediums of design. I guess you could say leading up to launching The Evermore Floweret began with the pandemic. Prior to this, I had built a successful career as a level 4 hairstylist and salon hair color educator for 18 years. When the pandemic hit, I stepped away from that career to homeschool my 2 kids. I took a course on growing and selling cut flowers with FLORET in the winter of 2019 and decided to put that knowledge to use and start growing and selling flowers to my community. It was so much work, but I LOVED it! A year and a half later, we had another huge shift, our family moved, and the kids went back to school. I struggled to continue growing and selling in our new location and in late fall/ winter of 2021 I had decided to close that business and found myself thinking “Now what?”. I knew I loved working with flowers and would love to continue working with them in some capacity. I came across this way of preserving flowers by happenstance and fell in love with it! After researching, I saw the need for brides to be able to preserve the beauty in the moment of saying “I do”. Weddings are a pivotal event in our lives with so many memories connected to them. Sure, we have the photo album that gets closed in a drawer or a dress that gets tucked in the back of the closet, but modern floral preservation is made to be displayed, seen, and used in the home. That’s when I began the work of learning, growing, and building up the launch of The Evermore Floweret.
Shawna, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Sure! My name is Shawna Mang and I am the owner of The Evermore Floweret, a modern floral preservation company that specializes in wedding bouquet preservation. A mom, wife, and maker at heart; creating is a lifelong passion and part of a life well lived. At The Evermore Floweret, I use wedding day florals to create a one-of-a-kind piece of art that is made to be displayed in the home. This way of preserving your flowers allows them to be forever sealed with the same beauty they had on your wedding day by utilizing a specific drying technique and casting them in resin.
Flowers have an innate way of connecting us to the people, places, and memories we hold dear. A wedding bouquet preservation connects you to all of details, love, beauty, and support that was shared on that special day. Since I am the last wedding vendor that a couple receives a service from, the goal and mission behind my business is to put the exclamation point on such an incredible life event! This begins with a warm welcome, great communication throughout the process, and a true love and passion for what I do. I don’t want my couples to just love the finished product, I want them to have enjoyed the entire process. One of the unique features that I offer is for the couple to be a part of the design. A design questionnaire is sent out before their big day, and they can customize their preservation to truly make it their own. Once a design is created from this questionnaire, a proof is sent over for approval before I begin to pour so that everyone is on the same page as to what the outcome of this piece will be. High quality materials are used to preserve and protect their flowers so they can enjoy them for years to come!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Much of my business comes from brides finding me on Instagram so that is who I speak to. The bride that loves flowers, beauty, nostalgia, heritage, and the commitment of marriage. I try to offer valuable content in the form of tips and education on the process of floral preservation along with the beautiful photos of the preservation created. I’m not concentrated on how many likes and follows I can acquire, but more on the value I can serve to the bride interested in preserving their wedding bouquet.
Although I am still learning and growing in this area of social media, one thing I have learned along the way is that Instagram is not a one size fits all. Just because you see different businesses and industries marketing a certain way on Instagram doesn’t mean that the same strategy will work for your business or niche. You need to find one that aligns with your business, post valuable content, be consistent and realize that likes and follows of anyone and everyone, may not be the sign of successful marketing you are looking for.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist in this medium of wedding bouquet preservation is knowing that my work and my art also holds so many details and memories for the bride and groom. That it will continue to serve its purpose of beauty and connection for years to come.
