We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Shawna Fitzpatrick. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Shawna below.
Shawna, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
What I think it takes to be successful is defining what “success” is to you. Once you have that, that is what you work towards. Don’t allow others to define what success is for you.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Well, let’s see, I thrive in the creative industry. I have experience in photography, graphic design, digital media, advertising, art direction, and the list goes on. As of lately, the problems I solve for my clients are designing eye-catching advertisement and promotional materials, and transforming complex information into visually engaging and digestible content to ensure messages are clear and effective for their target audience. What I think sets me apart from others is that although I love to create, I also enjoy strategy. Researching and digging for the “why” to help take a strategic approach at solving the client problem is fulfilling to me. What I am most proud of is recently I completed a 16–week program with The One Club for Creativity — ONE Creator Lab, in collaboration with TikTok. During this program I, along with other creatives, assisted well known advertising agencies in creating and pitching short-form, and video-first campaigns for various brands. The main thing I want the world to know about me is that the “S” on my chest stands for strategy, storytelling, and sarcasm.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Yes! I wish I knew about Mark Pollard earlier. He breaks creative strategy down into comprehensible and digestible terms.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
There are two, actually. “It’s Not How Good You Are, It’s How Good You Want To Be” by Paul Arden, and “Manage Your Day-To-Day: Build Your Routine, Find Your Focus, & Sharpen Your Creative Mind” by 99U.
