We recently connected with Shawn Reidy and have shared our conversation below.
Shawn, appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I would say each of my four albums are very meaningful to me in different ways. I have several EPs and Singles as well but as a big album guy I think it’s pretty interesting to look at the progression from my studio albums the last 7 years.
I’ve always made it a goal of mine to make each album a stamp in time for my current mental state, and while some projects do it better than others, I think I at least have achieved that criteria of mine so far.
Shawn, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
for the last nine years, I’ve been concocting a style of hip-hop, influenced by many modern artist, and sounds.
I graduated from the Academy of contemporary music at University of Central Oklahoma with a degree and music production. It was there I learned music, business, music, theory, and the mixing and mastering process. from then I became a freelance artist and have been since 2014.
If I had to say what I was proud of most in my career, so far would be the grassroots approach I have took to music and the slow but steady growth of organic and relationship driven fanbase without the backing of any label or investors.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I wouldn’t say there’s a particular mission in mind when it comes to my creative endeavors. I make a lot of music about the human condition and I think the only goal I have is getting it out there to as many people as I can, and communicating it as well as possible.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
i’m currently doing this interview from Dover Rhode Island, a place I’ve never been before about to sing my rap songs for about 40 to 50 strangers. It’s very hard at this moment and time to not say touring is the most enriching and fulfilling part of doing what I do. I’ve always felt a lot of emotions in my life, And one thing allows me to do is to deal with those emotions, turn Them into art that I am proud of, and doesn’t bind me to any rules of how serious or silly I can be. I don’t think words will ever be able to describe what it is like, hearing a group of people sing back Words you came up with in a split second of your life.
