We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shawn Lee House a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Shawn Lee thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I am a self-taught photographer, books, YouTube, and Google were my professors. I trust my vision to capture what I can see clearly. There was some trial and error however my craft can be enhanced with continuous learning and hard work.
Knowing what I know now I would have trusted my creative gut sooner, purged the fear of failing and believed I was good enough. When you believe in yourself you have the power to make all your dreams come true. One more thing, I learned that it was ok to revamp my business and brand until I got it just right.
When it comes to the essential skills I would say listening, customer service, and follow through. From my experience people don’t book if the response time is too long or they don’t feel valued. It was important I have a system in place to stay connected with my clients. Constant contact keeps me in front of my clients for any questions or concerns your client might have. I never take for granted that my clients trust my vision. It is my responsibility to coach clients throughout the shoot with posing or facial expression to deliver a confident, bold, or loving moment captured on film.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am Shawn Lee House, mother, photographer, realtor, and dream catcher. I love to create and be of service to others, that’s my purpose in this life. Photography was the best way to feed the need to service and create. The vision behind Hervision by Shawn Lee, LLC was to empower, create and network with others. I wanted lifelong clients in addition to working with entrepreneurs and small business owners. Through photography I can create visual storyboards for families, businesses, and brands.
Portrait photography allows me to capture legacy moments with families, friends, and business owners.
Event photography allows me to document special events in a person’s life, business, or community.
Branding and product photography gives businesses a voice to market, promote and grow their brands.
Landscape photography allows the world to see my vision and tell my story of discovery without saying a word, this is therapeutic for me.
My goal is to create the forever client, the client that tells their life story through my lens. Portrait photography helps tell the story with engagement photos to wedding photography then pregnancy announcement. One portrait client can rebook for varies family events throughout the years.
Branding photography gives entrepreneurs, business professional and brands to showcase who they are, what services and products they provide and help them become relatable to those they serve. One session can provide months of content that could help grow their business. The ability to rebook with clients is a beautiful accomplishment and I never take that for granted.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Pivoting is what I like to call revise and rediscovery. Life after divorce was my time to revise plan and rediscover, pivot. Removing all restrictions and limitations from my mind allowed me to launch my business and live in my purpose.
