We were lucky to catch up with Shawn Ledet recently and have shared our conversation below.

Shawn, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?

Our mission is to provide people with great tasting cajun products with very little salt. Today most seasonings out there have so much salt in them that is all you taste. Here at Cajun Smoke Seasoning our products only have 2% salt in them. You get all the cajun flavor you can handle but not all the salt.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Cajun Smoke was the brainchild of Shawn Ledet. Being a true cajun, my mom taught me how to cook when I was 12 years old. Learning to cook cajun dishes from Chicken Andouille Gumbo, Seafood Gumbo, Red Beans, Stews etc. When I had a family of my own, I was very tired of using so many different seasonings that were to salty, and there was a lot of them. So I started blending ingredients together until I came up with my own special seasoning, CAJUN SMOKE. The main thing is that I didn’t want a lot of salt in. I was always taught you can always add salt but you can’t take it out. With the support of my wife, we made it a business, Cajun Smoke, LLC. So now here we are selling a true premium cajun seasoning to the public.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?

Being a dream of mine for so long the only choice in having a co-owner and business partner was my beautiful wife. From the conception of Cajun Smoke she was there supporting me and my dream and helping sell during her days off of work selling at farmers markets to get our name out there. When eventually Cajun Smoke was made into a LLC she was the only choice. She has been there through thick and thin during the ups and downs of the business making her the best out there.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?

Being new to the business world we really did not know how to get started getting a loan from a bank and so on. So I am proud to say all of the capital we have used to grow the business was from our own bank account. We used our own money to get started and use the money in the business to keep going. It is a great feeling to know we do not owe any money to anyone.
