We recently connected with Shawn Hakakian and have shared our conversation below.
Shawn, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today One of the most important things small businesses can do, in our view, is to serve underserved communities that are ignored by giant corporations who often are just creating mass-market, one-size-fits-all solutions. Talk to us about how you serve an underserved community.
Founder Shawn Hakakian, the son of an immigrant, learned first hand how immigrants without sufficient support or financial backing were taken advantage of in the legal system. As a personal injury attorney, Shawn represents multiple clients who have been hurt through the neglect of others, and allows them to navigate the legal system at no up front cost. We advocate for individuals who have sustained life-changing injuries, missed time from work, and are in incredibly stressful situations. At Hakakian Law Group, we help support clients through the journey of medical treatment, discussing with their employers the need for time off, and advocating for our client with insurance companies to make sure they are being fairly compensated to heal, for loss of earnings, and the damages they’ve sustained.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Shawn Hakakian started his career after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. He first worked for one of the top global law firms, Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher where he worked on several high-stakes and fast paced legal matters. Realizing that working for corporations was not his calling, he made the move to represent individuals, especially those who needed help in a time of need. Shawn is the son of an Iranian immigrant. He witnessed first hand how his father struggled to navigate the legal system in California when he was involved in an accident himself. He felt that his father was taken advantage of and wanted to ensure that those who did not have a voice or could not financially afford counsel, were afforded the opportunity to have an advocate in their corner. This same mission drives Hakakian Law Group to fight for our clients every single day to get back on their feet after an often life-changing and incredibly stressful experience.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building your audience on social media takes time and effort, but can be an incredibly rewarding experience. Rather than overthinking things, the best way to grow on social media is by just getting started, taking the leap, and posting content and learning through trial and error what sticks the most with people. Always seek to master your craft by getting constructive criticism from family, friends, colleagues, etc. But truly the best way to build your audience is to get started talking about who you are, what your passions are, what you do and by being authentically yourself.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Shawn began his career working at an AmLaw 100 large corporate law firm where he had a comfortable salary working for incredibly intelligent business people. However, he quickly realized that he was missing the deeper interpersonal connection that drove him to law school in the first place. Having seen his own father get taken advantage of in the legal system, Shawn sought to make a 180 in his legal career – leaving the comfortable top floor of a corporate law office to opening his own small family-style legal practice where he sought to truly advocate for the little guy – the individual who was hurt and needed guidance and counsel in their time of need. It was the best decision Shawn has ever made. He gets to truly know his clients and take care of them as if they were his family. They often refer their family and friends because Shawn takes the time to constantly educate his clients on the process, keep them updated, hear their stories, and treat them as human beings, not case files.
