We recently connected with Shawn Foxx and have shared our conversation below.
Shawn, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So, let’s start with a hypothetical – what would you change about the educational system?
I feel like the education system is good for discipline & technical skills but it doesn’t teach students to be creative entrepreneurs or to learn how to pivot when major shifts happen in our economy.
Over the pandemic I watch graduates with their masters lose their job due to the shut down. I watch those same graduates struggle with entrepreneurship because they were never taught to develop a business for themselves or be creative outside of the company they work for.
I believe to prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career we need programs that make sure students are finding their identity within the work that they do. We need programs that simplify communication to grow community faster that way when companies shut down students know how to communicate what’s needed from their network without entitlement.
From personal experience as an entrepreneur sometimes it’s hard to work with some graduates who feel they know more than you about your own business because of a degree they received. I believe talent is talent, great ideas are great ideas & experience come in all forms regardless of how you got it and we should respect/exchange our experiences no matter our backgrounds. If it’s going to push things forward there is no reason for entitlement.
Whether you choose to go to school or not. We are all students of life and that should be something that’s implemented into the school system instead of pressuring kids to go to school for bigger business.

Shawn, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got into the creative industry simply being creative and doing what I love. It led me into meeting a great network of people in similar fields. I developed more skills to build confidence to try new things. With the help of my sports background I build enough discipline to deal with problems as they come and get over hurdles faster so that I can do more in a short amount of time.
I started off as a music artist that led into writing and producing for others. My development gave me the idea to start my own production called YFF PRODUCTIONS (@youfoundforest). I took it a step further with video production. I learned how to shoot and edit my own content which led me to doing it for others under the UNPLUG WORLD (unplug.world) umbrella that me and my partner Tarin Bai created. Since then I’ve developed more business ideas like ZIN CLUBHOUSE & DZIGNERHEAVEN that are starting to grow.
The products I provide are endless. From fashion, music/video production to studio space rental, I have created a one stop shop for people who get inspired off my work and want to develop/produce things for their own company. For those who support the brand I have merchandise and content of my own they can purchase as well.
The biggest thing that separates me from the competition is my ability to adapt with the times . I am proud of the skills I developed, my confidence/belief in of what I’m doing and most importantly my consistency in growth.
I want my supporters/followers to know that I am a man of my word, I believe in quality, and I am an overall chameleon.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn having expectations. A lot of times being of service to people we expect them to show some form of love and respect in return. I had to learn for myself the things I do for others is for me to learn who to lead and how to lead.
It taught me boundaries on what I consider beneficial for me and others. If I am not learning from the things provided there is no reason for expectations.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I met my business partner through a mutual friend in music. He was looking for an artist and I was looking for a new producer to help me develop a sound. We clicked on the first record and establish that we can do business in the beginning of the relationship. Through time, effort and conversation we decided to start our own media company.
