Alright, Shawn thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
My mother made the bravest call: recognizing she couldn’t raise us alone with a deadbeat partner, she leaned on my maternal grandparents, who became our bedrock. First-generation Americans, they taught me that your name is your legacy—guard it fiercely—and that kindness, humility, and giving always return tenfold. They convinced every grandkid this is America: dream big, work harder. I miss them deeply; they passed months apart, just shy of their 68th wedding anniversary.
My bond with Mom has always been best-friend unbreakable—we’ve weathered every storm together. When I was 10, my sister Christie arrived like sunrise after nightmare, healing the hole left by my first sister, lost at 4 months old when I was 4. Now Christie is married and gifted us the second-greatest blessing: my nephew, who just turned 5 and keeps wonder alive.

At 46, after decades sharpening real estate expertise in a ferocious market, I co-founded Vesta Realty Group in 2022 with my best friend Tammy Howard. We fused her business razor with my client-empowerment fire to launch a brokerage rooted in ethics and compassion. Named for the Roman goddess of hearth and home, Vesta treats every buyer, seller, renter, or owner like family—ensuring they feel seen, supported, and part of something lasting.
Since opening, we’ve doubled in size annually, closed millions in transactions, and championed community ties, proving ventures built on trust outlast flash-in-the-pan gains. At 49, Vesta stands as collaborative proof that integrity still wins in the land of opportunity.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Fifty combined years of grit, plus networking that turns handshakes into legacies. We don’t talk results—we deliver them: proactive fixes, relentless follow-through, outcomes that stun. Five toxic years in property management taught me what I’d never tolerate. Tammy and I endured gender pay gaps, a boss with a slave-owner complex, and daily belittlement. I warned the owner lawsuits loomed; he laughed—until we pushed back. His retaliation: racist slurs, false quit claims, police escort.
The three-year legal war was brutal, but facts in black-and-white don’t lie. We settled only to end the circus. The ordeal forged Vesta’s spine: zero tolerance for bigotry, full commitment to equity and respect. Every policy I write today carries scar tissue from that fight.
