Shavona, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I am Shavona Holmes founder and owner of Steam Sistahs. I was introduced to yoni steaming on my fertility journey to conceive. Although I wasn’t successful, I have helped five women birth healthy babies. I am a preschool teacher by day and a steam practitioner by night; which is why my hours are limited. We are by appointment only. I offer yoni steams and foot detox treatments. I recently started selling my herbs wholesale, I also offer mobile and virtual steam services as well. Why choose Steam Sistahs? We are a business you can trust and we are accredited by the Better Business Bureau. We are the only steam spa that holds this accreditation in San Diego County.
Why should you steam? Steaming is a natural way to help women with menstrual health such as; painful menses, blooding, clotting,etc. consist of a womb detox that helps women who have endometriosis, PCOS, fibroids and other womb traumas. Also aids with fertility, postpartum, menopause and women who have been through sexual trauma.It is all natural, safe, you will not get burnt and men can steam too.
I am honored to have been on several local podcasts (Just Keep Livin, Meet the Elite, The Brandee J Show). I have steamed the ladies of VH1’s, Love & Hip Hop Reunion show when they were filming in San Diego. Very honored to now be a 2023 Marquis Who’s Who Listee.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?

Outstanding customer service. Most of my clients are referrals from current clients. Grateful for the oldest way, word of mouth. I also give out a little magnet to all my first time clients. I have had several new clients say they saw the magnet on a friend’s fridge, looked me up and booked an appointment. A little gratitude goes a long way.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

I was days away from receiving my key to my new lease in El Cajon. The city denied my license due to location wasn’t zoned for personal services. You would think the landlord would know that, thankfully I hadn’t paid him anything yet. I was set to move out my current space in within the next week. I had leased my current space to an old coworker. I informed her about the changes and she offered to share the space with me until I figured things out. I continued business operations a few more months there, so grateful for Skin Glory to share there space with me. One day I was steaming with a client and she referred me to Bridget’s Essence of Beauty who is a salon owner. I reached out and found out we had met a few months back at an award ceremony she was being honored at. We discussed my needs and negotiated terms for moving in. Bridget’ is currently my new suite mate and we work well together. I love my new location, better parking, minutes from my home in case I forget something and need to run back. Our business relationship couldn’t be better. In May we hosted our first Mother’s Day Wellness event together. It was a great turnout and we look forward to our next joint event.
