We recently connected with Shavawn Everitt and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Shavawn thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Almost every entrepreneur we know has considered donating a portion of their sales to an organization or cause – how did you make the decision of whether to donate? We’d love to hear the backstory if you’re open to sharing the details.
Transforming Lives & Building Hope ~ these are the reasons we donate a percentage of our sales to Yonder Life. Our good friends, Chad & Amy, started Yonder Life with Frank Aineomugisha of Uganda with the goal of serving and working with orphaned, vulnerable children and under privileged families. Yonder Life opened, Shine Vocational School, which gives children, who had no opportunity to succeed in life, an education and skills to live a better life. You can sponsor one of their students here https://yonderlife.org/education/.
Yonder Life is so much more than a school program; that is just one peice of the puzzle. They have created a community of people who are dedicated to helping others and supporting others through many avenues. “Every day I wake up wanting to contribute to this world, it’s my daily assignment to share love, kindness and be in charge of my life so as to share a beautiful story with the world motivating everyone around me to keep pursuing their Godly given dreams hence living a life of significancy.” ~Frank

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Born and raised in Texas, I definitely grew up the Texas way! My grandparents owned one of the first and largest dairy farms in San Antonio and we had a small family farm outside the Hill Country. Farm life was challenging in many ways, but I loved growing up on the farm, learning the life lessons of hard work and dedication. At a young age I enjoyed building our family farmhouse with my father. He used to let me run the electrical wiring across the open trusses from one end of the house to the other; my mother did not like that at all! Looking back, I think my father is why I fell in love with construction!
Today I work in construction with my husband; we opened our own design firm in 2011. Design & Details specializes in luxury and high-end residential design. We focus on new construction & renovation projects and we offer construction consultation. We guide our clients through all their options, provide clarity through the construction process and bring their dream home to life through our meticulous approach to Construction Design.
We design anywhere and everywhere! Let’s chat! Here is the link to get started: https://www.designanddetails.net/contact-us
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Who are you? What message do you have to share?
These are the core questions we should be answering in our social media presence, and we should be answering them with authenticity and honesty. ‘Who you are’ isn’t who you think people want you to be! My social media shows the good, bad, and ugly of construction not just the pretty photos at the end of a design project. Construction can be frustrating at times and there is always something that doesn’t go as planned, but teamwork, perseverance and proactiveness are the keys to working through any issues. Construction is ‘real life’ hard work and I prefer to show the ‘real life’ view of design and construction.
You are ‘authentic’ and social media gives you the opportunity to show this to everyone else, so use it to do so!
How’d you meet your business partner?
I met my business partner in 2005! I had just flown home from studying abroad (Design & Art School) in Italy to walk the stage, graduate from college and return to Rome where I had a job lined up. I only had 2 college classes left to complete before I could officially graduate. Low and behold I met the love of my life, Matt, in 1 of those 2 classes – go figure!! Life can change in an instant!
