We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Shauvik Sharan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Shauvik below.
Shauvik, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I think the moment I knew I wanted to pursue music professionally was when I transitioned from being just a guitar player to becoming a songwriter. I picked up the guitar at 14 and started playing in a bunch of bands in my hometown of Pune, India. At the time, it was more of a hobby, something I loved doing, but never saw as a career. Still, our band started winning a lot of “Battle of the Bands” competitions, and those early wins gave me a huge confidence boost.
About a year later, EDM was exploding in India, and I got curious about electronic music production. I started watching YouTube tutorials, learned how to use a DAW, picked up Ableton, and taught myself how to DJ. Before I knew it, I was producing original tracks and even won a few DJ competitions. One of my proudest moments was becoming one of the youngest DJs to win CASCADE War of DJs, which was one of the biggest DJ contests in my state.
With that momentum, I began spending every spare minute working on music. I’d wait for school to end just so I could rush home, lock myself in my room, and experiment with synths, plugins, and new sounds. I started blending my guitar skills into my production ideas and slowly began developing a style of my own.
Eventually, I wanted to push things further: add lyrics, vocals, and turn those ideas into full-fledged songs. That’s when everything shifted. The moment I started songwriting, it felt like something clicked. I knew instantly that this was it, this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. It became even clearer when I discovered I could sing and that my voice had a unique tone. I started writing constantly, mixing electronic elements with guitar, vocals, and storytelling. What started as a passion turned into an obsession.
As a kid, I used to dream of becoming a fiction writer. I loved building characters and weaving stories. Songwriting brought that same joy back into my life, but now I could tell stories using not just words, but melody, harmony, and sound. When I began performing these original songs live and saw how people connected with them, it cemented everything for me. I knew then that this isn’t just what I love, it’s who I am. Being a music artist is what I’m meant to do.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Sure! My name is Shauvik Sharan and I’m the artist behind Flyght Club, a music project where I blend elements of alternative rock, indie pop, electronic music, blues, and hip-hop to create songs that are deeply personal, genre-fluid, and emotionally honest. I’m originally from Pune, India and currently based in Los Angeles, where I’m continuing to grow my craft and connect with listeners around the world.
I got into music at 14, starting out as a guitar player in local bands. Over time, my curiosity pulled me into music production and DJing, and that opened the door to songwriting, singing, and eventually shaping my own identity as a solo artist and producer. What started out as a hobby quickly became something much deeper. Music became my language, a way to express my inner world, tell stories, and build emotional bridges with listeners.
As Flyght Club, I do everything independently — from songwriting, production, and mixing/mastering to visuals, promotion, and release strategy. Every track is handcrafted, and that DIY ethic allows the music to be fully authentic, raw, and creatively unfiltered. My goal is to build music that doesn’t just sound good but feels real. Whether it’s a full production with soaring synths and beats, or a stripped-down acoustic version with just a guitar, I want people to connect with the emotion behind the song.
My music has been featured in publications like Wonderland Magazine, Notion, Earmilk, Your EDM, and The Indian Music Diaries, and I’ve performed at iconic venues like Whisky a Go Go, The Mint, Viper Room, The Peppermint Club, and at larger events like LA County Fair, Mid City Arts + Music Festival and LA Fashion Week. I’ve also won multiple songwriting awards, including honorable mentions from SongDoor and the Songwriters’ Association of Washington.
What sets me apart is not just the genre-blending style, but the storytelling and depth that go into each release. I draw from a wide spectrum of musical influences, but it’s all rooted in creating something real — whether that’s a song about heartbreak, identity, mental health, or hope.
Outside of Flyght Club, I also work as a composer and producer, having scored award-winning films and collaborated with legendary musicians like Rajib Karmakar, Debashish Bhattacharya, and producers like Jason Derulo and MrMovi3. I’ve had the opportunity to study under and assist music legends like Scott Henderson, Allen Hinds, Mikal Reid, and Francis Buckley, which has helped me grow both technically and creatively.
What I’m most proud of is that everything I’ve built — every release, every performance, every milestone — has been from the ground up. I’ve stayed true to my voice, trusted my instincts, and created a sound that reflects who I am without compromise. And now, Flyght Club has grown into more than just a music project — it’s become a movement around authenticity, self-expression, and artistic independence.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Consistency. Authenticity. Having fun with it. And then — did I mention? — Consistency again.
Social media can be a tricky, sometimes controversial tool when it comes to art. But like it or not, it’s also the most powerful and accessible way to build your brand today. It’s free marketing, and for independent artists, that’s gold.
That said, it’s important to recognize that even with the best strategies, content plans, and optimization tricks, a huge part of social media success still comes down to timing and luck. Not every post will hit. The algorithm doesn’t favor everyone equally. And that’s okay.
The best advice I can give is: tune out the noise — especially the overwhelming sea of tips from self-proclaimed “social media gurus.” Instead, focus on what you would want to see as a fan. Put yourself in your audience’s shoes. What kind of content would you stop scrolling for if it came from an artist you love?
Be real. Be yourself. Let your personality, your brand, and your art shine through in a way that feels natural and honest. Keep showing up, keep evolving, and keep sharing your journey. Over time, you’ll start to understand what resonates and what doesn’t — and that learning curve, paired with consistent effort, is what eventually builds a real audience.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For any artist, the act of creating something beautiful, something honest and emotionally resonant out of nothing is one of the most deeply rewarding experiences. There’s a certain magic in transforming raw emotion into sound, words, or visuals that speak to something universal. Even more powerful is when that creation finds its way into the hearts of others and when people connect with the vulnerability, the story, and the truth behind the art. That shared understanding is profoundly moving. It’s what gives our work purpose, and it’s what keeps us artists inspired to continue expressing, evolving, and creating.
