We were lucky to catch up with Shauron Carroll recently and have shared our conversation below.
Shauron, appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us a bit about who your hero is and the influence they’ve had on you?
My hero is my late father, Odell McCain Sr. My dad is my hero in every facet of my life. He taught me so many life lessons. He was hard working, loving, selfless, and long suffering. My biggest takeaways from watching my father was how to persevere through tough times. He had endured quite a bit of trials over the course of his life, but it was how he endured. He could have all hell breaking lose around him, but internally he was steady. He had a peace that truly surpassed all understanding. It taught me to endure, knowing that I could do so with joy and peace no matter what is going on around me. This one lesson of many has influenced my life greatly. It has shifted my perspective that no matter what even in trials there is something to be learned. Sometimes those trials come to develop something in me or teach me something. Nothing is wasted. Becoming a business owner comes with many highs and lows. Its not all glitz and glamour, but learning to endure in those down times I believe is the reason why I’m still working for myself right now.

Shauron, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a hairstylist in the local San Antonio area specializing in protective styling. I got into this industry very young. I’ve been braiding over 20 years since I was about 10 years old. I think what sets me apart is my business structure and personality. I try to be as organized as possible, there aren’t wait times for servicing, and I have personal way of appointment scheduling. I like to get to know my clients and their needs so I can better service them. Something I’m proud of is the satisfaction of the client and my business being a safe space for my clients.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I started styling full time in 2019. I was a military spouse stationed in Guam with limited job opportunities. This is where I began build my audience on social media. There weren’t many stylist in Guam that did the type of hairstyles that I offered. It was relatively easy to start gaining clients via social media. My advice is to post, post post! The more you post your content, the more your work will be seen. Also invest in yourself. Pay for ads, it can give you much more visibility.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What helps building a good reputation is treating your clients with respect, being flexible when necessary and providing good service every time. Just being a person of your word goes a long way in the beauty industry. Be on time, communicate, and deliver. The respect must be mutual, but its necessary to build a successful business.
