We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shauna Ti’er a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Shauna, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Having parents and a family that believed in my creative abilities and artistic knowledge at a young age was top-tier; however, if those abilities aren’t fed or poured into, they can begin to divert to other areas that are not so lucrative and productive. Being that I was born in a family- a long history of individuals with creative, artistic abilities, and knowledgeable business entrepreneurs and investors; I learned that risk taking did not always involve financial moves, but learning to take a big, even huge risk on yourself which was crucial to me being successful in my craft and multiple gifts. With that being said, the biggest risk that I’ve ever taken in my life was when I stop putting the fate of my future in the hands of others and began to put the fate of my future and the success of my children and grandchildren in myself and the lineage that was set before me by my ancestors and the universe who had lined up those steps before I was even born; the most High God assigned my spirit guides to lead and nudge me to line myself up with my purpose that was already set before me. I took that leap and here I am now.

Shauna, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a mother of six and a grandmother of six (with two more on the way late 2026). I am a high school educator as well as a collegiate professor. I am an actress, model, and singer! I write, produce, and direct films. I got into the industry very young doing stage plays and doing plays at church at 5 years old; singing as a soloist and in the church choir; stage plays at school, getting into drama club; then I was afforded the opportunity to be a model for JCPenney INC. Corporate at 15 years old on a special quest called S.T.A.F.F. (special teen advisor for fashion). I continued to do stage plays in drama while singing in church and and other local events. I was then contracted through NTM GROUP; Naturally Talented Management Group by CEO and founder, the late Shanita Brown. She took me under her wing and began to help me develop as an actress, model, in short films, in tv series, commercials and we even created an EP and released a few singles of my own music. . She remained my manager/consultant/friend turned family throughout the years. We were very close friends/family from middle school until she passed away in September 2025. As of today I am writing short films and television series. I am producing major events, I am still acting. I am still modeling, and I am directing and producing my films through my company called Sapphire Mix Productions, LLC., under the umbrella of Sapphire Mix Fusion, INC.
I am currently casting for my TV series. I learned at a young age that when you lose a lot, you hunger and thirst to get it all back. I’ve taken that time to set my life up so that I can have it all back and that my family and I can enjoy the fruits of our labor.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One of the huge lessons I had to UNLEARN was to NOT put my trust in everybody that says that they are going to be there for me through my journey. The backstory is simple; some people over promise and under deliver. Not because they set out to harm you, but because we give others too much power over how far we go in life and a lot of times they can’t see past where you can see. We often times believe that those who start out with us are those we should trust in our journey. Once you mature and begin to love yourself enough to trust YOU, then you learn that there’s so much greatness and potential within that you don’t have to look outside for anything that you need.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
So one of the things I would love for my young readers, especially the young ladies to understand when you make decisions about who you decide to marry and have children with it can affect the trajectory of your business, your career and even your life so please make smart decisions about your future when it comes allowing a partner in your life and bringing children to this world. Because of my decisions early on, I had to pivot and work very hard; much harder than I probably needed to, to get back to my creative and artistic path.
