We recently connected with Shatoine May and have shared our conversation below.
Shatoine , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
The first time I knew I wanted to pursue a creative career specifically being in the field of beauty, was my first year in college. My life has always been around creativity, I was always involved in all things creative, and seemed to be always multi skilled in many fields when it came to the arts . So even when I entered college, my original path was still art related . I had always wanted to become a news anchor, or a talk show host , so I graduated with full intentions to start that journey on that career path. Like most people college, entering those college bound ages also enters you into more self discovery , your mindset and a lot of who and what you think you knew about you is put more to an challenge. Gaining more independence to express and be exactly who you want to be , and that’s what led me to make my decision of the path I choose career wise . While being a news anchor sounded like a great thing to become , it truly wasn’t making me feel complete. In college I decided I wanted to fully commit to what it was I wanted to do in like and walk the path to becoming who I am . Beauty , fashion and Style was an everyday love thing for me , encouraging others to be true and embrace themselves was and still is something I stand hard for which is why I continue to push myself farther into a career that allows me to exactly those things .
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am a creator overall ! My main focus expression through my style and artistic skills with makeup, which has led me to be able to now create a brand and continue to build it to fully consist of personal care products , makeup services and even modeling . My main focus is to leave the impact of knowing that I encouraged and motivated not just women but all humans to accept who they are and to to all things beautiful in the life they are given . What makes me proud, is I can say just like anyone we as humans have our daily challenges , lack of motivation at times and will to want to just give up , but I Always have it in me to take care of what it is that causes these challenges to allow me to continue and keep shining in my craft .
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My particular goal is to just know I did something great for me and that others would be influenced in a positive way to want to do the same . I want to definitely succeed in my career and just being able to look back and say I did that with a big smile .
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
My journey honestly feeds off resilience. We live in a world full of opinions, full of self doubt . So being able to push through it all along with the darts that comes with life and the personal mountains that I have to climb often , is really what keeps me going . Starting off in a field that isn’t familiar to people around me, I definitely heard a lot of “are you sure you want to do that “ oh you won’t succeed in that , and that pushed me more and more to just thrive and show myself that I actually will and can .
