We recently connected with Shatera Mayo and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Shatera , thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?

I actually came up with Mayos Dream Rolled Ice Cream, by literally just loving ice cream and my last name. My grandmother use to drive me to the donut shop which also sold ice cream early in the morning. She would sneak me ice cream and a donut, before taking me back home. That literally went on for months and I loved it. I was a kid so of course I loved it. My favorite dessert has always been hard scooped ice cream with sprinkles. I also wanted to solve a problem that I saw at the time. I wanted some place that people can go, sit down and enjoy themselves with family & friends. Some place everyone was welcomed with open arms and could have a great time and release whatever strain or stress they were experiencing that day.

Shatera , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

For those that don’t know, my name is Shatera Mayo. A lot of people call me Mayo or Queen Mayo. I got into the ice cream business just off of pure love for ice cream. It’s literally mind blowing with how many flavors and taste you can come up. Which makes it even more exciting. We put our hearts and souls into our craft and making both us and our customers happy. We aim to deliver the highest quality products with great attention to details but also delivering an experience. It takes a lot of discipline and dedication for any business to deliver quality products and I thank God for blessing me with this vision. Ice cream literally makes people happy and that’s all we want to do.

We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.

We do sell online on our website “MayosDreamRolled.com” it’s mind boggling that you can purchase pints of your favorite ice cream and products and get them shipped to your doorstep. You can also visit us online to see all of our menus and merchandise that we offer. You can see when we change our flavors, our catering options for our ice cream/rolled ice cream and sorbet menu. When we first started shipping it was a nightmare. Making sure the dry ice doesn’t melt, and making sure our customers received the best quality of products no matter what state they lived. Thank God we fixed it by trials and errors.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.

We keep in touch with all our customers by our email notifications we send out. We don’t spam but anytime we have a new flavor, special holiday or our anniversary that’s coming up we send emails. If we have a special announcement we send emails first then we post on our social media accounts. We are starting a loyalty point system very soon for all of our customers.
