We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shatara Clark a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Shatara, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
In 2016 I wrote a book. I always knew I wanted to be an author and I could write, but I knew it would take funds in order to publish. Funds to dedicate solely to publishing were few and far between. As I continued to research and inquire to individuals who were publishing books and publishing companies, I was rendering very little results. I continued to search for options and was becoming depressed by the day. Years went by, and finally, in 2019 my research brought me to Kindle Direct Publishing. I published an ebook, and begin to explore the site. In a matter of a few months, and after some advice from a friend I became a self-published author.
Today, I have helped almost 50 authors and counting become published. I let them know that I am not a publishing house, but if self-publishing is the route they would like to pursue I can do the legwork. I love what I do and how I help people make their dreams come true, without searching for years like I did. I love making their writing dreams come true. Since 2020 the business has expanded and now we are “all things writing.”
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
As stated in my story, my business (TyWrites) was birthed after searching for publishing options for years. Aside from book publishing, we offer affordable resumes, resume revamps, cover letters, graphic consulting, logos, coaching, and more. Many people would like to launch their brands but find branding very expensive, our goal is to make it more affordable and provide a one-on-one approach to it. I am most proud of the fact that I am able to give close attention to my clients to the point that most times they believe they are my only client.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of a business, I believe will forever be word of mouth. Most people who come to me were either sent by someone I worked with before or by someone who saw a post of mine on social media. That is literally how I gain most of my clients and will forever be the best source for me. This is why I aim to create a satisfying experience for them.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I love my email list. This is a way my clients can always hear from me and I can share tips as I learn new things, and offer them extras or media opportunities.
