Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shastiney (Shay) Hicks. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Shastiney (Shay) , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
To be successful as a lash artist, you gotta bring your A-game, It’s all about that steady hand, creativity, and the hustle to keep those clients coming back for more. You need to be on point with the latest trends, like the wispy lash look or mega volume. Networking is key, even though I have not mastered this yet I do see that you really need to get your social media poppin’ and don’t be shy about flaunting your skills on TikTok or Instagram. Invest in quality products because no one wants their lashes looking like a hot mess. And remember, never stop learning & practice makes perfect, so keep refining your technique.

Shastiney (Shay) , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Shay. I am originally from California. I have been an active member of the beauty industry since 2007. I showcased my skills as a master cosmetologist for seven years before relocating to Georgia to further my career after working with two renowned waxing & lash companies and earning my certificate certification as a master lash artist I discovered that I really had a passion for lash extensions. in 2019 I embarked on a new journey by establishing my own business La Shay Beauty a significant milestone in my career and I am a proud business owner.
Being a lash artist is pure magic! Seeing the joy on your clients’ faces when they see their flawless new lashes is the ultimate thrill. It’s like you’re a lash fairy, sprinkling beauty and confidence everywhere you go. You get to unleash your creativity, meet amazing people, and build lasting relationships with your clients. Every appointment is a chance to create something beautiful and unique.
But hey, it’s not all glitter and glam. Starting your own lash biz comes with its struggles. You might find yourself tangled in the web of making sure you have paper work in order , long days etc. Building a solid client base takes time, and there might be days when your appointment book looks a bit too empty. Plus, keeping up with the latest trends and techniques requires continuous learning and investment. And let’s not forget the occasional tricky client who tests your patience. But with passion, perseverance, and a pinch of humor, you’ll navigate these challenges like a rock star

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Word-of-mouth has been my secret sauce for gaining clientele in the lash industry. There’s nothing like a happy client raving about their gorgeous lashes to their friends and family. Personal recommendations build trust and authenticity, making it easier for new clients to choose my services. Plus, it feels incredible to know that my work speaks for itself.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I focus on creating a personalized experience for each one. I regularly check in with them via text to see how they’re enjoying their lashes and to remind them of upcoming appointments. Social media is also a great tool I engage with clients by liking and commenting on their posts, sharing beauty tips, and showcasing my latest work. Most importantly, I always aim to provide top-notch service, so they feel valued and appreciated every time they visit.
