We were lucky to catch up with Sharon Simon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sharon, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I knew I wanted to be an actress from a very young age. But with little success I had given up. The tragedy of 911 woke me up to the fact that our lives are short and it propelled me to start my career and stand-up comedy.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Often times when people think of Stand Up comics, they think of those who are superstars and those who were failures. But I am amongst a wonderful group of professional comedians who do it for their lives because of the love of the art. I have always been an artist as a little girl I was dancing in my crib. For years, I was what you would call a stripper/burlesque dancer, and I didn’t know that I would eventually do something much more meaningful to me. There is nothing in the world like making people laugh.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Often times people do not understand the drive to do Comedy. I meet people at parties who think they’re funny and therefore should be a Comic. But creating Stand Up and working the craft as its own art form I feel more alive when I turn a bad situation into something that makes people laugh.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
As many comics in New York, do I performed on amateur night at Showtime at the Apollo. I knocked the stump over and was booed off stage. My poor parents saw this. I can’t express you how upset I was, but it made me fearless as it can’t get any worse than that
