Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sharon Macey. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sharon , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
I’ve taken two big risks in my life. The first? Moving to New York City straight out of college to break into advertising. I visited NYC for the very first time during spring break of my senior year at the University of Texas at Austin with the Advertising Club. The moment I stepped off the plane—back when you walked down a staircase onto the tarmac—I saw the skyline and knew I was coming back.
So after graduation, I packed one suitcase, one copywriting portfolio, and cashed in every savings bond I had (it wasn’t much) and bought a one-way ticket to New York. No job. No friends. Two weeks of housing. And a gut-level belief I’d land on Madison Avenue—because in my mind, there was no other option.
I temped to support myself while pounding the pavement, met dozens of people—including one industry icon who became a lifelong mentor and friend—and three months later, landed a full-time job as a junior copywriter at Kurtz & Tarlow.
I pinched pennies, couch-surfed, and had way too many roommates. But I also discovered something important: when someone says it can’t be done, my answer has always been—watch me. I moved up the ranks, becoming an associate creative director and award-winning copywriter along the way.
Starting the Mom to MORE® Podcast was my second big risk. Putting my advertising career on pause to lean into family life was something I wanted to do and yet, it was a massive change. During those mom years I felt I had lost myself, I didn’t matter anymore, and my skillset had dissolved into thin air. All those emotions despite the fact I was running a not so small company (our family of 5) and was developing an entirely new and robust skillset I never imagined I’d have. That said, reinventing myself after nearly two decades as a stay-at-home mom meant stepping into a brand new arena—one filled with unfamiliar tech, younger voices, and the nagging question: Will anyone care what I have to say?
But doing nothing? Sitting back and wondering what if and was I too old? That’s just not in my DNA. I’ve always been a fighter. Playing it safe doesn’t lead to growth—and I knew I had to take a chance.
Was it messy? Absolutely. Have I failed? More times than I can count. But failure isn’t the end. It’s information. I now embrace ‘perceived failures’ because every misstep taught me something and helped me course-correct with more clarity, purpose, and confidence.
The Mom To MORE® podcast now has a top 2.5% global rank with over 500 five-star reviews. I am also a motivational speaker, content creator, blogger and loving every moment of this next chapter.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Sharon Macey—mom of three, former award-winning advertising creative, and now the Founder and Host of Mom to MORE®, a top-ranked podcast and growing community for women ready to rediscover and reignite themselves beyond the hands-on years of motherhood.
After nearly two decades as a stay-at-home mom, I found myself standing at a personal crossroads. My kids were getting older, and I started to ask the question so many moms do: What’s next for me? That quiet question became the spark that led me to launch Mom to MORE®—a platform that celebrates bold reinvention and gives voice to stories that often go unheard: the stories of women transforming their second (or third!) act into something powerful.
On the podcast, I interview women from all walks of life—CEO’s, actresses, authors, jewelry designers, nonprofit founders and change-makers—who’ve reimagined their lives after raising kids, weathering great loss, or shifting careers. We talk about everything from starting over at 50, to launching businesses later in life, to finding joy again after burnout. These aren’t just interviews; they’re real conversations that spark hope and possibility.
What sets Mom to MORE® apart is that it’s not just content—it’s connection. I know this journey because I’ve lived it. My brand is built on storytelling, authenticity, and the belief that moms are not just raising the next generation—we’re also rewriting our own chapters and giving ourselves wings alongside our kids.
In addition to the podcast, I also offer 1:1 coaching for women navigating life transitions, and I speak to organizations and groups about reinvention, identity, and finding purpose at every age.
What I’m most proud of? Hitting “record” for the very first time—because that one risk has led to a global community, top rankings, and messages from women who say, “Your podcast and your thought leadership gave me the courage to try.” That’s everything to me.
If there’s one thing I want potential listeners or collaborators to know, it’s this: Reinvention doesn’t have an age limit. Whether you’re craving creativity, connection, or clarity, there’s more waiting for you—and I’d love to help you find it.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn the idea that reinvention has an expiration date.
I grew up around people who followed a pretty traditional script: work hard, retire quietly at 65, and slow down. That model never quite fit me—but I didn’t fully realize it until my mid-50s, when I felt this inner spark that wouldn’t go away. I knew I wasn’t done growing, creating, or taking chances.
So I did what some might call unconventional: After giving up my passion for dance because of my kids, I returned and discovered Latin ballroom dancing in my mid-50s. A few years later, I began competing. In 2022, I became a national champion in my age category and level. I also launched Mom to MORE® in 2023, a top 2.5% globally-ranked podcast celebrating women who are rewriting their next chapters, breaking barriers and giving voice to moms who are older, wiser and totally kick-ass.
I’ve also had to unlearn that as we age we have a long, slow physical decline. Well, that’s BS. I’ve been strength training for the last 20 years and I’m stronger and more fit now than at any other point in my life. I can dead-lift 1.25x my body weight and I’m aiming for at least 1.6x my body weight.
I used to think I was “late” to the game. Now I know—I’m just getting warmed up. And let’s be honest: the cha-cha waits for no one.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I’m still building—and that’s okay. I believe slow and steady wins the race, especially when you’re building something with heart.
I’ve never tried to chase viral trends or rack up followers just for the numbers. Instead, I stay focused on my organic mission: helping moms rediscover themselves and create meaningful next chapters. I’ve lived the stay-at-home mom life for nearly two decades, and I know firsthand how disorienting, scary, and ultimately liberating—reinvention can be. That lived experience gives me a voice of empathy, authority, and trust.
Every podcast episode, newsletter, Instagram post, or DM I share comes from a real place. I talk the talk, but more importantly—I walk the walk. I’m not selling a dream I haven’t lived myself.
My social media following is still modest but it’s highly engaged and deeply aligned. And my email list? It’s growing every week. I’d rather have 1,000 real connections than 10,000 empty clicks. The relationships being built now are the foundation for something much bigger.
Advice to those just starting out? Share your unique story. Something that rings true to you because we all have those stories to share. And your stories, your experiences ARE important. What might seem like no big deal to you is enlightening to someone else.
