I am the product of two amazing parents. I proclaimed that, even though both my parents were alcoholics. As a result, I found myself at the age of 12 being a full-blown alcoholic as well. Had my only child at the age of 14 even though I was a scholar would be considered a scholar in school and graduated out of a class of 436. I graduated at the age of 16. My life spiraled after that into a world of Addiction, and all that goes along with it . I found myself in a drug treatment center as a result of suicide attempts. I got sober at the age of 34. As a result of getting sober, I was blessed to complete my undergrad degree in psychology at Christian Brothers University. I obtain my masters or should I say my first masters in psychology as well then I proceeded to obtain a second leadership with an emphasis in behavioral health. I have been in the field of Therapy for the last 30 years I was blessed to create programs for women and children Suffering from mental health issues, domestic violence, and substance abuse. I retired from the Salvation Army After developing a comprehensive program for women and children in a long-term environment. I retired in 22.
We’ve heard great things about your organization. For our readers who might not be as familiar, can you please tell them about the organization?
I am a mental health therapist that work for 22 years with the Salvation Army produce center of Hope in Memphis, Tennessee. What I Believe set us apart from other environments is that the children of the mothers were acknowledged as patience due to their trauma as a result of having a mother with mental health issues. The program exhibited in the steps taken that compassion, empathy, and structure makes the difference in the quality of the lives of women attempting to heal. Offering a mother and her children time to begin again is the foundation the program is built on. I am most proud of my opportunity to attend graduations of the children that came into the program with their mothers at the ages of three and four, I’m proud of mothers, obtaining home ownership and Play degrees as a result of having the support of the program that I was blessed to help create
So, as we mentioned to our audience earlier, you were introduced to us by Dr. Selena Smith and Living Legacy Inc. and we really admire them and what they’ve built. For folks who might not be as familiar, can you tell them a bit about your experience with Living Legacy Inc..
My Experience with Dr. Selena Smith has multi levels. I know her to be a very compassionate clinician in the field of mental health. I know her to be an amazing mother, daughter, wife, and friend. Her knowledge of the business of mental health, supported my program in becoming one of the most recognized Programs in the state of Tennessee, she possessed the ability to forecast processes when we started that are continuously manifesting such as how alcohol syndrome must be understood in the field when working with mothers and their children, along with adverse childhood experiences before it was even a part of the conversation in working with children and trauma. Dr. SMITH was able to speak to a panel of very traditional thinking individuals within the Salvation Army and give them details that allowed them to make a good decision about future finding for programs that were not otherwise thought of. Her continuing thirst for information allows her fresh evidence based tools to address the trauma suffered by individuals before they start into their journey of substance abuse, or domestic violence is proving to be priceless among those that follow her. She is an educator as well as a clinician that understands the power of emotional and spiritual sobriety as well and is able to incorporate those areas in her therapeutic processes
