We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sharon Blake. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sharon below.
Sharon, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
I was working at Seattle Union Gospel Mission and decided that after I had self-published my first book, I wanted to help others publish their books as well. I started to ask some of the case workers if they wanted to share their story via anthology. Most agreed. I started to gather everyone’s story and our first book by Life Chronicles Publishing was published! The title was,I Am Beautiful: The Evolution of Beauty. It was truly a book about what true beauty meant to women as they transitioned through their pain.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Our goal at Life Chronicles Publishing is to assist you with your publishing needs. We can help in many areas of your writing process, such as coaching, editing, proofreading, illustrations, formatting, and book covers. Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I remember that I wanted to start my own publishing company but I didn’t know where to start. I reached out to another publisher Sable Tekle and she was giving publishing courses. I paid for the course and that was it! I started my company about a month later. My son and I built our own website and it was frustrating at first but then we got the hang of it. From there we started to advertise on social media and we started to get customers.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
My first 2-3 years where the hardest mentally and financially. I struggled with quitting and go back to getting a regular job but something wouldn’t let me quit. I didn’t like corporate and I want to create a business for myself and others where they could work in a great atmosphere. So I continued even as scared as I was I pursued and it finally paid off!
