We recently connected with Sharmayne Green and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Sharmayne thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
When coming up with the name for my business Raw&Rare Wig Co . I wanted to base it around what I would be selling. This time around I wanted to sell Raw hair extensions as well as continue selling quality virgin hair, I knew I wanted to include raw in my name to let my target audience know that I would now have raw hair extensions. I started googling and writing down any name that I can think of with the word raw. At first none of the names were clicking, until one day I had a dream and I wrote down three more names on my list based off that dream. I liked all three of the names and couldn’t choose, so I sent the three names to a few people I trust when it comes to their opinions which included my mom Shanque, sister Tiera and a couple close friends. Out of those three names everyone chose Raw&Rare Wig Co. I feel like the name I chose fits really well because it lets my customers know that when it comes to my custom made wigs and hair extensions you will be getting raw, rare and quality hair extensions.
Sharmayne, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Sharmayne and my business is based in Dallas, Texas and I have been an entrepreneur for four years now. I have two business which are an Ultimate Glow Beauty Bar which provides spa/facial services and Raw&Rare Wig Co. which is a wig and extension hair business. Right now my focus is getting my hair business R&R Wig Co. fully off the ground and successful. R&R Wig Co. is my business where I make custom wig units and sell quality hair bundles. My interest in the hair and beauty industry started with my cousin Crystal. One day I asked her to do me a quick style because I needed my hair done and in the mist of her doing my hair one of her friends called and asked her if she wanted to go out . She literally flat out stopped doing my hair to go party lol. So you know what I did, I got in that bathroom and finished the job. It actually came out good and that was the beginning of my journey as a hairstylist. So shout-out to my cousin Crystal for helping me find my hidden talent lol. I started doing hair in high school and did all my girls hair in my granny’s living room at the most affordable prices. Fast forward I stopped doing hair in my 20’s because I lost my love for it but In 2022 I decided to get back into the hairdresser field because I wanted to learn how to make wigs on a sewing machine. I felt like with me making custom units I could have more creativity to do my own thing when it comes to styling. So I learned a new trade and started making custom wigs. Now a year later I decided I was ready to start selling individual bundles as well. I am now getting ready for my website launch where you can purchase your Raw&Rare wigs and extensions. I think what sets me apart from others is my exceptional customer service. Before my business opened I had a career in customer service so I make sure to go above and beyond to provide my customers with the best experience possible. I make sure I am timely, understanding and able to execute whatever service it is they are looking for. I am so proud of just getting my business off the ground and doing everything I said I was going to do. I want my customers to know if you do any kind of business with me you will be satisfied with the service and products you receive.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
With both of my businesses I initially was funding everything out of pocket until I started learning about business credit. I want to tell everyone that CREDIT is so important. In 2017 I started working on my personal credit because I started to realize you needed credit for a lot of things. You need credit when buying a car, buying a house or just simply getting a credit card. I am so glad I started to build my personal credit back then because it put me in the position to get funding for my business with business credit . I now have over 50k in business funding to fund my business. It’s such a luxury to use a good line of credit instead of your own money.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing your clientele is to be consistent with posting your work, doing the foot work by advertising your business outside of social media and giving your customers great customer service. If you provide great customer service your customers will speak highly of you to other people and that is were your word of mouth clientele will come from.
