Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sharmayne Bolling. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sharmayne , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
I used to take risks to other people by being dependent on their responses towards me. I would people please to validate my self-worth, which in turn causes me to be perfect for a perfect response. I became drained in seeking validation and realized I needed to do the work on pouring into myself. I took a risk on me. This risk requires me to do the work and build up my esteem to love myself. I never placed myself in harmful situations but sometimes I trusted the wrong people. Trusting people who were not ready to love me or just be kind caused more damage to me. Now I can stand tall and say I am implementing boundaries, going to therapy, loving myself, and allowing God to show me how amazing I was this entire time.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Every year I have been blessed to cultivate many gifts. Starting back from high school to present. I currently do work in the non-profit field, fashion. administration and mental health. All of these gifts have birthed business under my LLC. I started a non profit called Pretty Girls, Inc in 2010, I been in mental healthy fully since 2020, I complete admin duties for my church and a production company and I have an online boutique called C. Lanae. All of these gifts have created space to assist people in different capacities.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
There are seasons when business is slow. This at times can be discouraging and bit frustrating. When this happens I don’t become upset anymore; I trust God. In these times business always comes to phone and then proceed to know what I do is necessary. I continue to post and continue to create. I never stop dreaming!
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Working hard means success. I used to work so hard that I would neglect self care. I am learning to take care of myself and not feel unsuccessful. I’m only unsuccessful if I do not care for myself and wellbeing.
