Alright, Sharmaine thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Our journey with Anu Naturalz began when my husband and I embarked on a holistic health journey after he was diagnosed with a pituitary gland tumor. We wanted to find natural products with medicinal properties, which led us to start experimenting in our kitchen. As parents of five boys, we also wanted to create products that would be safe and beneficial for our family, especially our son with eczema. This led us to develop all-natural deodorant and body butter, which proved to be effective and gained interest from people in our circle.
We chose the name Anu Naturalz because “Anu” means new beginnings or new life, which resonated with our holistic journey. We launched our business during the pandemic in September 2020, and since then, we have continued to expand our product line and customer base. We started locally but have now reached customers across America, including a few celebrities who have become fans of our products.
As we continue to grow and market our business, our focus is on developing facial serums and creams and collaborating with other small businesses in the community. Our ultimate goal is to expand into the international market and cater to a diverse clientele. Anu Naturalz is for everyone, and we are committed to providing high-quality, all-natural products that promote a healthy lifestyle. It’s incredible to think that we’ve achieved so much in just two years, and we are excited to see where our journey takes us next.

Both my husband and I are nurses by profession, which I believe ignited our passion to help people. We are known for going above and beyond for our patients, and we strongly believe in a holistic approach to healthcare. Before we started Anu Naturalz, we began creating natural products through research and experimentation to help people in our circle with holistic remedies. As nurses, we understand that the traditional medical approach can sometimes fall short, and we wanted to offer options that focused on improving the person from the inside out.
What sets us apart from others is our openness and willingness to explore new ideas, especially after my husband’s battle with a tumor. It forced us to step out of our comfort zone and seek out options that aligned with our holistic beliefs. Our products are person-centered, and we prioritize using pure, scientifically-proven, holistic ingredients without any harmful additives. I am most proud of our growth as a company and how we started. The level of love and appreciation for our brand has been incredible, and it motivates us to continue expanding our reach.
Despite our success, we have not lost our passion for the business and continue to strive for excellence with an integrity mindset. We stand behind our products and believe in their ability to help people. It’s fulfilling to know that we have made a positive impact in such a short amount of time, and we are excited to continue growing and helping more people through our products.

Have you ever had to pivot?
Has it been a smooth journey for us? Absolutely not! Starting our business during the pandemic as first-time business owners, we had to learn a lot of things along the way to grow and develop our company. There were several aspects of entrepreneurship that we were not familiar with, and we had to learn through trial and error. For instance, the pandemic posed a challenge when it came to shipping, locating, and receiving supplies, but we had to learn how to optimize these processes. As we progressed, we realized that marketing, finances, and customer satisfaction (reviews) are vital components of the puzzle that we did not initially consider when launching Anu Naturalz. One of our defining moments occurred when we released our new body butter, and one of the initial shipments melted due to imperfect packaging. Although our customers were understanding, we were determined to build our brand on integrity and consistency. Thus, we refunded all our customers’ purchases, procured more supplies, and sent out new products free of charge, covering all shipping expenses. As a small business, especially one that only uses natural supplies, which can be costly because of the need for product preservation, this was a critical moment for us. We had to regroup and change our entire shipping structure, which also meant we had to put more money for packaging. We also changed our shipping timeframes to ensure no shipments would be in limbo over the weekend. It was tough in the moment considering budgeting however, we chose to rise to the occasion as business owners, and I believe that’s why our customers continue to support Anu Naturalz.
