Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharita Wilson.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?

A native of Oklahoma City, raised in Spencer, Oklahoma, she graduated from Star Spencer High School and pursued a major in Education at Oklahoma State University. Sharita serves as the President of Poetic City and leads the operations of it’s Adopt a Street Program for the past three years.
A lover of music and spoken word, Sharita has cultivated herself into a professional performance artist whom performs under the stage name “Sharita Renee”. Refining her artistry by touching stages and hearts with her relatable yet touching messages across the nation from Oklahoma to Philadelphia, she has been nominated for national awards including The OKC’s People’s Choice Award for Favorite Spoken Word artist in 2021. Along with her numerous self-publications highly regarded as a “Poet of the People”, she promises her fans and “tribe” that this is just the beginning of this “Queen’s Reign”.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Our paths aren’t always smooth and straight to our destination. My personal path has had a lot of twists and turns. However each obstacle was needed .
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a professional spoken word artist. I’ve had the opportunities and pleasures to preform around the country. Being not just the President but a member of Poetic City’s poetry department also . Has opened up a sizable amount of doors . That have help to expand my brand and talents. I’m most proud of , being able to show my children. Even when dreams are put on hold . Dreams do not have to die . What sets me apart from others is my work ethics. Spoken Word isn’t just a “little hobby” , to me . It’s a passion and a gift so I treated it as such.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My advice for anyone that is looking for mentorship and or networking in general. Find your “community”. There are so many people likely in your perspective, career or artistry. Social media is a tool , that can connect you with people all over the world . Take advantage of all social media platforms. Furthermore, do your research make sure that mentor is not only befitting but beneficial to your goals and objectives.
