We recently connected with Sharhonda Henry and have shared our conversation below.
Sharhonda, appreciate you joining us today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
How we treat people each day really does shape our legacy. I try to always be appreciative and have an “attitude of gratitude” because each day is a blessing. My mother always says that people don’t have to be nice to you. I remember that often and lead with kindness and the assumption of positive intent. I hope my legacy is one of kindness, compassion and understanding.
Sharhonda, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve been making wreaths for about 10 years. I’ve always been crafty and loved decorating my home for the seasons and holidays. What started out as a simple wreath for football season quickly turned into a passion. I love creating beautiful pieces that welcome guests into your home. Something about a wreath on the door just seems so inviting. I use a variety of materials to create door wreaths, but my favorites are burlap and deco mesh.
My love for collaborating with clients to discover their personality sets me apart from other wreath makers. My goal is always to design and create a wreath that compliments the essence of their home.
I’m most proud of my sustainability! I’ve been in this business for over a decade and with so many changes in life and the world, it would have been easy to call it quits. But my love for what I do has kept me going!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Shortly after making my first few wreaths, I created a Facebook page. Facebook was still relatively new then so it was a great opportunity to start a page and advertise my work. It was, and still is, a great way to interact with potential customers and other wreath makers. I also started posting on my Instagram page. Both platforms allow me to showcase my wreaths and it’s easy for followers to see all that I offer. The key to building an audience is consistency and engagement! Post often and interact in the comments. Now we have the ability to engage followers with stories and reels, so it’s easier to quickly share content. Remember that it’s good to give followers a glimpse into your life, personality and style. It makes you relatable. Also, ask your followers to like and share your posts. And, to tag a friend too!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
There are several factors that helped build my reputation as a wreath maker. The main thing is creating a durable product by using quality materials. If you’re paying for something, you want it to last! Another factor is having great customer service. It’s important to be responsive to customer inquiries and receptive to suggestions. Also, it’s important to be collaborative and willing to share your talents. I think the quote is “each one, teach one”. You learn by sharing best practices with other wreath makers. And consistency is key! You must be disciplined, even on the days when the motivation isn’t there.
