We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Share Cherrie a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Share thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I knew when I was a child watching reruns of Gillian’s Island and Land of the Lost that I wanted desperately to be in the filmmaking business. Back then, I wanted to be a star like Ginger! I learned later in life that my true passion was behind the scenes. Thinking, building, dreaming, and creating.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started Indie filmmaking in my early 20s in Hollywood; I was fortunate enough to meet people who were also interested in filmmaking. I was cast in some great Indie Horror films and scouted out for some incredible music videos and featured films! I was a budding actress and, at the time, had only been in high school theater; however, I was good at improvising and character development, so it was a natural procession for me to begin filmmaking. I got a few lucky breaks and was cast in some Starring and Supporting Roles in the Indie Horror Hits SUPERSTAR FEMALE SERIAL KILLER and TRICK OF THE WITCH, Winner of the NY/LA Film Festival.
I am inspired daily by the life around me. I spend most of my time between Downtown LA, The Mid Wilshire, and Hollywood. The people around me creatively inspire me. It can be a person walking or something I see out of the corner of my eye. I will see something interesting, think about it, and send a voice text with the quote or thought to myself. When I am home, in my creative space, I take all those snippets of thoughts and give them some structure, combine them, and elaborate. This is how I created my latest movie HOLLYWOOD BABYDOLL, A psychological thriller about a deranged teenager obsessed with murder and fame in Tinseltown. I have been having some great success with my newest film! I hosted a sold-out Hollywood premiere in February at The Yard Theater; the film has also won festival awards in Rome, London, and Berlin! We will continue to feature the film around Los Angeles and online in the coming months!
My focus and mission are to keep creating, evolving, learning, be healthy and strong. I enjoy creative arts such as writing, photography, music, and film. And I am also an accomplished marathon finisher and long-distance walker; I suppose that is really where I get all my time to think. It’s been a leading factor in improving my life for over 13 years!
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
There is only one mission and one goal that drives me creatively, and that is knowing that my time is endless, my creativity is a gift and I am only now learning that there are many ways to show it to the world around me.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I wish that I had known that my creativity mattered as much as it did, I spent a lot of time trying to validate myself, and it was never necessary; I feel like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz; I had the gift all along I only need to believe in myself.
