We were lucky to catch up with Shardae Scott recently and have shared our conversation below.
Shardae, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Dae Dreamers started out as an idea about two years ago. I had several names in my notes in my phone that I had been playing around with. I have always loved fashion, and finding ways to make people feel good. I have always been just a little shy at times too, which has held me back in the past. I started purchasing things like my sewing machine, a mannequin, needles, thread, etc., and started looking up sewing classes but was unsuccessful in my search due to COVID-19. It did discourage me a bit, along with me not knowing where to start, I have always caught the eye of others with my fashion, so I definitely would do certain things with hair and makeup to catch the attention of others. I figured this would help me to gain the courage to start my business. Fast forward to November of 2021, I was having a conversation with someone who told me, “why not just do it”, and I thought, well why not? So I put in the info for my business to become licensed and it was complete by January. I started on the logo, which I changed three times. I want my logo to be very clean, but memorable. I decided on the name Dae Dreamers because it fits everything that I stand for and beyond. Dae Dreamers is a descriptive of a group of people that bring their fashion fantasies to life; an ongoing visual of self expression through clothing. Dae Dreamers ooze confidence, and are aware that they can do anything! I decided to start off simple, in hopes that people will catch onto my vision and begin to branch off into luxury items. I also aspire to do volunteer work.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Shardae Scott and I am from Detroit, Michigan. I am a girly girl, and I pretty much love everything dealing with fashion. I love hair, makeup, high editorial photography, fashion of all types. Some of my inspirations are my hometown, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, old Hollywood Glam, Keyshai Ka’oir, and Dita Von Teese. I am often teased that clothes is all I think about, which is very true. I pretty much just pushed myself to do this. I have asked for advice here and there, but I am mostly doing things as I go, focusing on the vision that I have. I have a unisex streetwear clothing brand, catering to all body types. I am proud of how far I have come in such a short time. This started out as something that was a thought, to pen and paper to reality. I want people to know that this vision is for everyone.. no matter who you are. I want people to love what they are wearing, and walk around proudly saying that they are a Dae Dreamer.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Well, I would say that everyday I am striving to make my business be as successful as I possibly can. I don’t really have a story. Currently I am working at my day job to ensure that I can meet the needs I have to meet for my business. It is a challenge because I have always been a hard worker but I am sacrificing a lot.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I am currently learning patience and the importance of timing. Timing in business, it seems is everything.
