Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sharath Yerra. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sharath, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Through years of personal and professional exploration, I’ve come to understand a fundamental truth: true success rarely arrives effortlessly. The things that come easily often lack the lasting impact we seek.
Despite joining the world of filmmaking relatively late, I never allowed this to deter my aspirations. Instead, I chose to invest time, unwavering effort, and countless hours into my craft. I committed myself to acquiring every skill necessary to evolve into a proficient cinematographer.
For me, success isn’t measured by comparisons with others. It’s about the journey of personal growth and self-improvement. Real success lies in transcending our prior selves and continually striving to become the best versions of who we can be.
The formula for success, in my eyes, is clear: invest time and effort into becoming an improved version of yourself and apply this philosophy to every endeavor you undertake. This mindset serves as the driving force behind what it takes to be successful.

Sharath, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello everyone, my name is Sharath Yerra, and I’m a cinematographer. My journey into this industry is a bit unconventional. I initially studied business management and explored various opportunities in the business world. However, my true passion has always been in filmmaking.
After some experiences in the business world, I decided to pivot and follow my passion. I began working for a company that creates content for YouTube on a global scale. Alongside this, I started collaborating with friends on short films, some of which were even selected for film festivals. These early experiences confirmed my dedication to the world of filmmaking.
Recognizing the need to refine my skills, I made a significant decision. I moved to Los Angeles to pursue formal education in cinematography. Upon graduating, I started offering my services as a cinematographer, photographer, and colorist.
What makes me proud of my work is the dedication and commitment I put into every project. I’m unwavering in my pursuit of the best possible outcome in every scenario I encounter.
To my potential clients, I want to emphasize that my work ethic and discipline are what truly set me apart. Under the brand “SHARATHVISIONS,” I provide a range of services, including cinematography, photography, and color grading. My ultimate goal is to deliver the highest quality work, ensuring that your vision is brought to life in the most captivating and visually striking way possible. Your project’s success is my utmost priority, and I look forward to collaborating with you to create something extraordinary.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative, particularly as a cinematographer in filmmaking, lies in the collaborative nature of the work. In this field, we have the opportunity to work closely with various departments in the filmmaking process. Our role involves translating the director’s vision into a visual reality, using elements such as framing, colors, composition, and camera movements to bring their ideas to life on the screen.
What truly makes this journey special is the collaborative effort that goes into turning a concept into a captivating piece of art. Working hand in hand with other creative professionals, such as production designers and many more, to transform a shared vision into a tangible reality is immensely gratifying. It’s in these collaborative moments that the magic of filmmaking truly comes alive, and the harmony of creative minds working together to achieve a common goal is what I find most rewarding as an artist and cinematographer.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
While I may not consider myself an avid reader, there are a few books that have had a profound impact on my life and perspective. “Freedom From The Known” by Jiddu Krishnamurti is one such book that has prompted deep self-reflection and significantly altered the way I view various aspects of life.
In terms of daily tasks and conquering procrastination, “Atomic Habits” proved to be a game-changer. It provided valuable insights and practical strategies to improve my productivity and overcome procrastination effectively.
When it comes to understanding the complexities of finance, “Psychology Of Money” offered a fresh and enlightening perspective on how we relate to and manage our finances. It has undoubtedly influenced the way I approach money matters.
For those interested in my craft, which is cinematography, I highly recommend “5C’s of Cinematography” and “Cinematography Theory & Practice.” These resources have been instrumental in enhancing my understanding of the art and science of cinematography.
Additionally, the “Team Deakins” podcast has been an eye-opening experience, offering valuable insights into various facets of filmmaking that have expanded my knowledge and perspective in this dynamic field. These are just a few of the resources that have greatly influenced my personal and professional growth.
