We recently connected with Shaqullie Jackson and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Shaqullie, thanks for joining us today. Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?
My first client was R&B Superstar Jacquees. I was introduced to him through my cousin, BPace, who was his personal cameraman. They both loved my work ethic and style so when the opportunity arose for me to travel to Kentucky for a show, I was ready to execute. It was a surreal moment being that years prior to meeting him; my dad showed me some of Jacquees’ video only for me to end up capturing special moments in his career.
Being grateful for the opportunity I didn’t care to be paid. As we stopped at a gas station to grab snacks, his bodyguard surprised me with payment. Admittedly I was slightly nervous being that it was my first ever concert shoot. Before the show we prayed together as a family and have been like brothers ever since. The following morning I showed him the photos which he loved and stated that I fully captured his essence the way he wanted.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My family members always shared an interest in the industry so when I picked up a camera I figured the best way to really get in was to get comfortable being uncomfortable, be adaptive, and networking with the right people. Out the gate, as I mentioned before, I shadowed my cousin, Brandon Pace, who had already made a name for himself. So I was be attentive; asking questions to becoming more familiar with the industry and how I should operate if I wanted to be successful.
The services my brand provides is as follows: graphic designing, videography, and photography. What sets me apart from others is that I don’t look at someone that needs my service as a quick dollar to make. Upon service request I often ask questions to best bring their vision to life; as well as the message/deeper meaning behind their brand. I genuinely care to see others achieve the goals they set to accomplish. I am most proud of myself for not giving up and always remaining focused on my goals, no matter how difficult times had gotten.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Just simply listening to my clients; I am always free if anyone has a question or just needs career advice. giving exceptional customer service has helped me retain a strong client base.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Things I do to manage my team and maintain high morale is: always having a positive attitude, sharing ideas without deflecting, and anything I personally accomplish it’s a win for us all.
