We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shaquina Hill a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Shaquina, thanks for joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
I wanted the business name to be catchy, simple, but have a bold meaning! Sculpt represents the actual contouring of the body (the service that will be provided), but “The Look” means so much more! The Look represents confidence, self love, and body positivity. It also defines the image a person has in mind regarding their ideal physique. I want women to feel confident and secure with their natural bodies without feeling pressured to meet the unrealistic beauty standards society has placed on us as women. The slogan is create, define, and enhance! This slogan was chosen because body contouring services allow you to create your ideal physique, define certain problem areas such as your neck and jawline, and enhance your natural body from plumping your butt to playing up what’s already there! A business name that I could brand for future endeavors such as fitness, shape wear and clothing was kept in mind as well; anything that promotes health and wellness to sculpt the look!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Shaquina Hill, the owner and founder of Sculpt the Look. My calling is to help others by assisting them in living their most optimal life. As an Occupational Therapist by trade, now for 11 years, I decided to pursue body contouring because of burn out with healthcare. The desire to help others was still there, but I wanted to do that in a different way. I’ve always enjoyed studying the human body! It’s fascinating how it functions and operates both internally and externally. When I came across body contouring, I knew it would be perfect for me! The ability to utilize my knowledge as a therapist and see the body transform brings me joy! My goal as a body contouring specialist is to help women build confidence, love the skin they’re in, and embrace their natural beauty. I help women lose unwanted fat in stubborn areas that exercise and dieting just won’t do. Body contouring also tones and smooths areas of cellulite, plump and lift the buttocks and hip muscles, tighten loose skin along with other health and wellness services. When a client visits me for their intial consultation we develop a customized treatment plan that helps achieve their desired goals. By providing workout regimens, meal plans, compression garments, and education on maintaining a healthy lymphatic system which allows for lasting results. I want my clients to know that I’m here to help them be the best version of themselves by leading with integrity and genuine care.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Back in 2019 I made the life changing decision to move back to Georgia to be closer to family. My mom was diagnosed with dementia a few yrs ago and as her condition progressed, my dad asked me to move back home. I was young, single, and living my best life! I was very apprehensive about returning back home; not knowing how that would look for my life moving forward. It was bittersweet giving up my old life but I definitely wanted to be there for my family more than anything. I often questioned God, “why are you leading me back to Ga?” Although I was unsure, whatever the reason was, I would make the best of it. I felt like it was a bigger purpose for the move, but I just couldn’t put my finger on it. After working in healthcare during the pandemic, I was over it! I was experiencing compassion fatigue. I found myself crying before work and feeling so drained afterwards, I knew I had to do something different soon. After doing some soul searching I came across body contouring and I fell in love with it! Entrepreneurship had never been on my radar, but after researching and learning more about the industry, I knew I had found my niche! Although I still work as a therapist, starting my body contouring business has changed my focus and purpose in life.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Being a procrastinator! Procrastination was something I struggled with for a while. I remember a sermon where the pastor said, “procrastination is the graveyard of unexperienced blessings that has been utilized by our excuses.” That resonated with me deeply. There were always questions of timing and feelings of doubt mixed with anxiety that kept me paralyzed. It crippled my growth and held me back from experiencing life to the fullest. The time will never be right. You have to seize the moment and opportunities when they’re presented. I had to become disciplined in my efforts to combat procrastination by writing out a to do list, making deadlines for myself, and blocking out time in my schedule to focus on tasks. Asking for help when feeling overwhelmed or when unable to process something has allowed me to stay intentional with making sure I don’t revert to old habits. I’m still a work in progress, but aren’t we all?
