We were lucky to catch up with Shaquae Hickman recently and have shared our conversation below.
Shaquae, appreciate you joining us today. Can you recount a story of an unexpected problem you’ve faced along the way?
The Most unexpected problem i faced was investing so much into equipment and to be on slow down days, everyone always says “just go for it” but sometimes thats the most scariest part!

I am a female dj born in New York City raised in the DMV (DC,MD,VA) area, i am also a IT network technician for amazon web services. I offer dj services currently. I am a well rounded dj who speacializes in all music starting from 70’s pop to 2024 afrobeats!
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I grew up in that typical environment of “go to school, go to college, and work a 9 to 5”. I wanted to show everyone especially my family that you can do anything you put your mind to no matter the experience or knowledge you have. You just have to work hard and PUSH!
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Actually going out and networking face to face. It use to be something i was super nervous about and never thought i would be able to do it! Once i started branching out and going to different events it helped me gain clients.
