Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to ShaQira Smith. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi ShaQira, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project I have ever worked on to date would be my “Rebirth Collection”, created in the Spring of 2022. I have done several collections in the past for my business, but this one in particular marked a new chapter in my business and personal life. At the time when I was working on this project, I was going through a lot of changes and reconnecting with my faith in Christ. I had soon discovered what my ultimate mission was as an artist, and I aspired to showcase my new discovery through the “Rebirth Collection”. This collection shines light on my spiritual and emotional growth. Those who support the Kreative Kiwi Collections shop were able to see at firsthand how I’ve progressed as an artist and my ability to create in multiple mediums!

ShaQira, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello! My real name is ShaQira, but I am known as Kiwi in the art and business world. I am a self-taught Contemporary Artist and the proud owner of Kreative Kiwi Collections LLC! I’ve loved the arts since I was about six years old, and I dream of someday managing my own business. This dream stuck with me practically throughout my life; I always stayed active within the arts, whether joining the art club or taking up a creative project! As I entered high school, however, I began to consider switching my choice of profession to psychology. Senior year had come, and time was running out to choose between art or psychology; at least, that’s what it felt like to me! But then something incredible happened that influenced my final decision. I began featuring my works in art shows and had the opportunity to work alongside another Chicago artist, Sam Kirk, to create a new mural for our high school. After those experiences, I knew deep in my heart that creating was what I was meant to do.
Now at this point in the story, you’re assuming I went on to college to study art full-time. I did the complete opposite! After graduating high school in 2018, I began working as an assistant manager for a family-owned thrift store. The owner’s name was Deloris Green, and when I tell this part of my entrepreneurial journey, I always give Deloris her flowers. Working with her allowed me to see firsthand what it was like to manage an entire company. Because of her, I felt inspired to start my art business instead of going to college, and I have no regrets about my decision!
Like any other new business, I had to start small and find a platform to help me find an audience. So, I utilized Etsy, as recommended by Deloris, and a little bit of Instagram. It was quite a challenge, and there were a lot of hurdles to jump over. I am the first and only business owner in my family, and few of my friends or associates have experience. It was up to me to take the initiative and learn all about managing business expenses, what to do during tax season, how to get licensed, and much more! Here we are three years later and still going strong!
So now that you know the origin of Kreative Kiwi Collections LLC, how is my business relevant to you? What exactly do I provide? My mission here at KKC is to provide healing, meaning, and sensitivity through my creations. Those creations consist of handmade rugs, vases, paintings, and mugs; you name it! Every piece presented by KKC teaches one to be comfortable with who they are at the core, embrace softness and gentleness as they grow, and view life through the lenses of love.
When you are a creator, you can see forms that most others cannot. And I take pride in having the ability to bring not just my own but another’s vision to life! I feel most fulfilled when I can execute a project, thought, or idea that a client brings me to and give them something even better than what they were expecting!
Kreative Kiwi Collections is more than just any other business. It is a network welcoming those of all backgrounds with open arms. It 100% stands for the people and is a safe space for everyone, including myself. I am most proud of all the fantastic people I’ve met through KKC, and every day, I look forward to who I will connect with next or what new opportunity I will encounter!
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Every business has their own purpose and driving force behind their journey. Mine in particular is very simple: freedom. The freedom to live my life the way I want, financial freedom, spiritual freedom.

How did you build your audience on social media?
The best advice I can give to anyone growing their social media presence is the 2 C’s: Conversation and Consistency! Don’t be afraid to reach out to other businesses, artists, or creators like yourself. 90% of the best advice, ideas, and connections are made through clear and intentional communication! Staying consistent in what you do is also a major key to building a solid foundation. Curate a schedule or routine that will help you stay active with your content. There are so many different apps and tools that you can utilize to keep you on track!
