We recently connected with Shannon Zsiros and have shared our conversation below.
Shannon, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
To be successful, I believe it takes a combination of vision, discipline, adaptability, and perseverance. It’s not just about having a great idea but about committing to it day in and day out. Success is also about the ability to learn from mistakes, adapt to changes, and keep pushing forward even when things get tough.
One story that comes to mind is when I was first starting out with my VA business. There were a lot of unknowns, and I faced several challenges—whether it was juggling multiple clients, navigating new technologies, or simply managing my own expectations. But through perseverance and a focus on consistently delivering quality service, I began to build strong relationships with clients. One particularly memorable experience was when I had a client who was skeptical about virtual assistance. After providing exceptional support and results, they were so impressed that they recommended me to others in their network. That word-of-mouth growth became a major turning point for my business.
The key takeaway for me has been that success doesn’t happen overnight. It requires hard work, smart decisions, and staying grounded in your values.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m the founder of Lady Boss VA, a virtual assistant business dedicated to providing personalized, high-quality administrative support to entrepreneurs, business owners, and busy professionals. My journey into this industry was born out of a desire to help others succeed while also creating a flexible, rewarding career for myself. With a background in logistics, freight forwarding, and operations, I developed a knack for efficiency, organization, and problem-solving. I realized these skills could be applied in many areas of business to support others in streamlining their operations and achieving their goals.
At Lady Boss VA, we offer a range of services that cater to the specific needs of our clients. These include administrative support, social media management, website updates, customer service, project management, and more. We take pride in delivering tailor-made solutions that help clients save time, reduce stress, and focus on what truly matters—growing their business. Our clients range from small business owners to larger organizations, all seeking the support of a reliable, organized professional who understands the challenges of running a business.
What sets Lady Boss VA apart from others is our dedication to building lasting relationships with clients. We prioritize communication, transparency, and customization. We don’t just offer generic services; instead, we take the time to learn about each client’s unique needs, preferences, and goals, so that we can provide the best support possible. This personalized approach has helped us establish a reputation for trustworthiness and reliability.
One of the things I’m most proud of is how Lady Boss VA has grown organically through referrals and repeat clients. I’ve seen firsthand the positive impact our work has on our clients’ lives—helping them regain their time, reduce their workload, and achieve their business goals more efficiently. That’s the real reward for me: seeing my clients thrive.

We are here to help you achieve more, take on more, and reduce the overwhelming tasks that hold you back from growing your business. We’re dedicated, passionate, and ready to support you at every step of the way.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been consistently providing exceptional service and leveraging the power of referrals from satisfied clients. From the beginning, I focused on building strong, trusting relationships with my clients, ensuring that I understood their specific needs and always delivered high-quality, tailored support. By going above and beyond to exceed their expectations, I’ve been able to create lasting partnerships where clients feel confident and comfortable recommending my services to others.
Word-of-mouth referrals have been a game-changer for Lady Boss VA. When clients are happy with the support they receive, they naturally share their positive experiences with their networks, which leads to new opportunities and clients. These referrals often come from clients who have experienced firsthand how my services helped them save time, improve efficiency, and grow their business—making their endorsement highly valuable and credible.
Additionally, I’ve found that consistently asking for feedback and using it to improve my services has strengthened my reputation and helped ensure that clients feel heard and valued. This feedback loop helps refine my offerings and gives clients a sense of ownership in the process, which encourages continued loyalty and more referrals.
Ultimately, the strategy is simple: provide exceptional service, treat clients as partners, and let that satisfaction fuel growth through referrals. This approach has been key to building a strong and loyal client base.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Yes, there have been several resources that have profoundly impacted my management and entrepreneurial thinking. These materials have shaped my approach to business, helping me refine my strategies and stay motivated through the challenges of entrepreneurship.
1. Books:
“Girlboss” by Sophia Amoruso: This book has been a source of inspiration for many female entrepreneurs, including myself. Sophia’s journey from starting Nasty Gal in her garage to growing it into a multimillion-dollar company demonstrates the power of self-belief, hustle, and embracing imperfections. Her no-nonsense approach to business and life has shaped my mindset and approach to entrepreneurship.
“Dare to Lead” by Brené Brown: This book deeply impacted my leadership style. Brené’s research on vulnerability, courage, and building trust in teams has influenced how I foster relationships with clients and collaborators. Her focus on authenticity and emotional intelligence in leadership has been a cornerstone of my management philosophy.
“Radical Candor” by Kim Scott: This book helped me understand the importance of giving honest, constructive feedback while also building strong, supportive relationships. The idea of “caring personally and challenging directly” has become a key part of my approach to communication, both with clients and within my business.
2. Videos:
TED Talk: “The Power of Vulnerability” by Brené Brown: In this talk, Brené discusses the importance of embracing vulnerability and how it connects us as humans. As a leader and entrepreneur, this resonated with me deeply. It taught me the importance of being authentic and open, even when facing challenges, which has helped me build stronger connections with clients and peers.
“How to Build a Business Like a Girl” by Sophia Amoruso: In this video, Sophia shares her insights on how she built Nasty Gal from the ground up. Her approach, which emphasizes embracing being a “girl” in a male-dominated industry, has empowered me to embrace my own strengths and unique perspective as a woman in business.
3. Essays & Articles:
“The Confidence Code” by Katty Kay and Claire Shipman: This book (which I also found in article form) explores the science behind confidence and how women can develop it in both their personal and professional lives. It helped me recognize the importance of owning my successes and believing in my capabilities as an entrepreneur.
“Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead” by Sheryl Sandberg: Sheryl’s book has been a key resource in understanding the challenges women face in the workplace and how we can overcome them. Her call to “lean in” has inspired me to take more risks, seek leadership roles, and advocate for myself and my business.
4. Other Resources:
The Female Entrepreneur Association (FEA): Founded by Carrie Green, this platform offers support, resources, and a community for female entrepreneurs. The advice and inspiration I’ve gained from FEA have been incredibly helpful in shaping my journey.
Podcasts like “The Girlboss Radio” by Sophia Amoruso: Listening to other female entrepreneurs share their stories and experiences has been motivating and empowering. These conversations provide real-world advice and insights, making it clear that women can be successful leaders in any industry.
These resources have not only shaped my entrepreneurial mindset but have also provided valuable insights into leadership, overcoming challenges, and maintaining confidence in a competitive world. They have inspired me to build Lady Boss VA with authenticity, resilience, and a commitment to supporting other women in business.
