We were lucky to catch up with Shannon Wheeler recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Shannon, thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Venue XIV was birth from love, strength, and patience. The vision of two people that genuinely loved the wedding and events industry. This family owned venue if run by Jawon and Shannon Wheeler. We wanted to create something elegant that had an amazing view, and told a real true story of love and romance. When we came across the Harborview area, we thought it would be the perfect backdrop for this vision to come to life. Our Now waterfront venue sits right in the harbor view Marina and can accommodate weddings, corporate events, birthday parties, and more up to 300 guests.
We had general knowledge of the industry and a goal to add something beautiful to the space. We made a plan and stepped out on faith to make it happen. Despite of some of the challenges that we face in the industry, we tend to still thrive, knowing that our clients love our product

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We started as a small catering company. Within a year time we expanded to a small café in Glen Burnie, Maryland. We were able to service both our corporate and Wedding clients through catering. A lot of of our clients were requesting venues and although we had several Venue partners that we were able to recommend, we got the great idea to see if we could start our own. Everything about our Brand screens, family love and unity. It’s meant to make people feel together in the world that is so separate. It joins together real work ethic and genuine passion. Not only are we building businesses, but we’re building families and when you join the venue, XIV family you join a community of Mother’s father‘s brothers sisters That have all walks of life and a common goal.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
I met the cofounder my now husband in 2021 right after the pandemic. I had just turned 30 years old and we fell in love. Then we got married in 2023 and started our family. During that time we opened a catering company and cafe, Kitchen Klassifieds in Glen Burnie and in 2025 opened Venue xiv at Harborview. We also work with kids teaching steam programs based I. Music therapy and culinary skills.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
We tend to get a lot of word-of-mouth referral clients. But also doing the Facebook and Google ads drive a lot of traffic to our website to be able to reach out to clients. We also throw events a couple times a year to drive more traffic that way.
