We were lucky to catch up with Shannon Wendt-Heath recently and have shared our conversation below.
Shannon, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
For each of our wedding couples, I add a surprise element: perhaps something they originally wanted to rent, but had reached their budget limit or something I felt would add a “wow” factor in some way.
For example, last September I did the design for a boho-style wedding, and one of the surprises was adding vintage rattan seating for their sweetheart table. They had originally wanted these chairs, but decided to spend their money elsewhere. They were just the thing!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I married a man who has been in the wedding business for years, as a Master of Ceremonies, DJ, musician, officiant, and now, a planner.
We decided that the area needed a local source for wedding rentals, and not just one style, but styles for every couple: from garden party to boho to rustic-elegant and everything in between.
What sets us apart from other rental companies is that we also do the design and styling for our couples.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
I met my husband (co-owner) when he was playing his violin at a charity event. It was love at first sight!
Do you have any stories of times when you almost missed payroll or any other near death experiences for your business?
Of course it in 2020 during the pandemic. We were leasing a giant office and showroom space in Petoskey and had to make the decision not to renew the lease.
We moved everything to our home and several buildings added to our property for warehouse and storage space.
It ended up being a great decision. We save thousands of dollars a month not leasing.
