We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Shannon Savoy. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Shannon below.
Shannon, appreciate you joining us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
As the owner of my own coaching business & ministry, I help others overcome abuse and regain their life’s focus. I am definitely happier as a business owner. I empower others to break the chains of abuse through empowerment & education.
While my life’s work is fulfilling, that does not mean that owning my own business is all highs. There are ups and downs, whether you are an entrepreneur or work a 9 to 5. It is all about navigating & sustaining through the lows and riding the waves of the highs.
I previously worked in corporate America and although I loved being an Information Technology Project Manager, there was still something missing. Today, there are times when I get job offers or calls and I think briefly about going back. Deep inside, I truly know that a 9 to 5 is no longer for me at this point in my life. I made a calculated choice to get out of the rat race and I have much more flexibility and joy in my life.
As CEO I bring all my skillsets, formal education, and life experience to help run my business and be the best coach that I can be to my clients. Admittedly, I work more hours as CEO, but I love what I do so it doesn’t feel like work.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am CEO of Narc Free Living LLC. I am also a certified life coach, narcissist abuse recovery coach, domestic abuse advocate, speaker, and YouTuber. After escaping the clutces of a domestic & interpersonally violent marriage, I knew that I wanted to help others break free and from abuse. I am also a survivor of narcissistic family enmeshment, sexual, physical, emotional, and psychological abuse.
These experiences help me to understand firsthand how damaging narcissistic abuse can be. I genuinely relate on every level with survivors and understand what steps to take to overcome trauma and abuse holistically. After I went through extensive therapy, spiritual counseling, inner healing, and training, God put it in my heart to start my coaching practice
How did you build your audience on social media?
Like most on social media, I started out with one post, one video, one inspirational post. What separates me from others is I DON’T GIVE UP. I don’t quit. I don’t follow trends and worry about numbers. I remain authentic with my target audience who I affectionally call Chain Breakers.
In under two years, collectively across platforms, Narc Free Living has over 120K Chain Breakers!
51K on YouTube
19K on FB
19K on IG
31K on TikTok
Never underestimate the power of one!
If you are going to venture on social media or as an owner of your business, here are a few informal tips:
1. Love what you do & do what you love. Make good use of all your skills.
2. Research your niche, target market, and demographic.
3. Use the power of social media to help reach potential customers.
4. Be consistent. Remember progression over perfection. Perfectionism kills creativity.
5. Stand out and have fun doing it. Don’t be afraid of being YOU.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
As a military veteran of 23 years, I know a little bit about discipline. I retired from active duty Army as a Chief Warrant Officer Four (4) in 2017. It takes mental, physical, spiritual stamina, tenacity, and resolve to reach the top. This includes business, career, and life in general. The military helped hone what was already inside of me. Ethics, core values, Christ, faith, family, honesty, character, integrity, communication, and community are the cornerstones of my business and my life.
I recall an event where I was a new officer and a part of my duties were to get the secure communications network up and running for our General.
Let’s just say things did not go as planned that day. The 1-star general gave me a chewing out that I still remember! The next day I was airlifted to his base and was able to get the network back up. After comms were established he called me into his office and we had a candid discussion.
He gave me one of his coins (something that is common when you do a job well in the military). I never forgot that dialogue. I was never angry that he chewed me out. He had a job to do and so did I. I learned to never give up and never quit. I don’t quit when I’m tired. I quit when I am done – with wisdom of course.
These lessons still stick with me today.
