We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shannon Mitchell a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Shannon, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made?
The best investment that I’ve made as a business owner was actually spending my unemployment money to officially start Shealo Glo. In June of 2020, Covid 19 had recently shut most Atlanta businesses down and my job at Pappadeaux was no exception. I didn’t have the money for rent for May, so I had to move out of my place immediately! I decided to take a chunk of my unemployment and invest in myself, and the goal of black families across American having what they needed on a daily basis to naturally take care of themselves.
When the stimulus checks started being dispersed, I was reminded of what I learned in my Africa and African Diaspora Studies at Kennesaw State University, which is when financial aid is given, if skills are not developed along with the aid and other resources, then the community will be in a worse position at the end of the day. Starting my first company was an important decision for me and how I want to build for my family, but also for the community across the nation. Shealo Glo’s glo kits help fortify your immune system and with Covid 19 on the rise I knew that it was the perfect time to step into entrepreneurship and be a provider of solutions that we could count on.
Since 2020 Shealo Glo has been featured in the amazon bestselling book Women Connected in Wisdom: Stories and Resources Rooted in the 8 Dimensions of Wellness. In this book we focus on physical wellness and go deeper into using our glo kit to fortify your immune system! Over the years we’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with Top Golf, Pappadeaux, SCAD, The Gathering Spot, and Bank of America, to name a few. Recently, we opened a SPARK retail space on 228 Auburn Ave NE and will be hosting events, good vibes, and great products to the local community and our international community online!
Shannon, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Women Connected in Wisdom is for you if you want to be intentionally well, wise, and whole! We talk about the 8 Dimensions of Wellness every Wednesday live at 5 PM EST on YouTube, Facebook, and LinkedIn. We are currently ranked in the top 10% of the world and have recently published our amazon best-selling book Women Connected in Wisdom: Stories and Resources Rooted in the 8 Dimensions of Wellness. Our mission is to uplift womens’ voices and to provide a platform to connect you to the experts, and community that can provide actionable steps in the specific dimension in which you seek to grow.
I dove into the wellness industry after getting my psychology degree with a minor in Africa and African Diaspora Studies at Kennesaw State University. When I talked to the women closet to me there were countless preventable situations that simple communication and sharing would have stopped from happening. I grew tired of hearing stories of women passing away due to neglect, overextension, and lack of tailored, informed care. Whether dealing with chronic physical illness or chronic life cycles my passion is helping those who want to be intentionally well trade the death rate for dimensional wellness. What I’m most proud of is how I bring others with me. Whether through physical healing and wellness or to the top of the amazon best seller lists. What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The lesson that I had to unlearn was that I am irreplaceable. Now hear me out. As an individual, yes, I am unique, yes there are only one of me. In the different roles and responsibilities of my businesses I want to replace me with someone else as quickly as responsibly possible.
When I was younger, I thought that companies may fill my spot, but they would never replace me as an asset to the team. Even though this is still true I was pulling my self-worth out of context and not considering that a good system is set up for duplication and the owner being there does not increase their worth it just means they are choosing to spend their time differently. Now I look forward to delegation that helps others pay for my teams’ living expenses and helps us all operate in financial freedom.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
After Covid-19 shut down the Pappadeaux I was serving at in 2020, unemployment came late and stopped early. I knew I needed to do something sustainable for the next three generations of my family to be set up financially, so I started Shealo Glo with some of the unemployment money that I did get. At the beginning of 2022 Shealo Glo was working on rebranding with SCAD and I started working full time as a salaried Hospitality Manager at Top golf from January to March and then Kitchen Manager back at Pappadeaux from April to December.
Full time meant that I was on seven days a week with exceptions for breaks when absolutely necessary. Through this time Shealo Glo collaborated with both brands and Women Connected in Wisdom wrote our amazon best-seller Women Connected in Wisdom: Stories and Resources Rooted in the 8 Dimensions of Wellness and continued our weekly podcast. While I was working this seven day a week schedule I was reminded of when I was going to Kennesaw State; I was working three jobs and had five classes. I told myself I wouldn’t do that unsustainable schedule again, and here I was full time salaried manager and three businesses. The third we just recently started Connected in Wisdom Press. The difference between college in 2014 and my work schedule in 2022 is this time I was laser focused on my why, how, what, who, and when. Now I am working full time for myself helping Atlanta and America #glofromheadtotoe, connecting women around the world, and supporting more authors in becoming amazon best-selling authors!
