We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shannon Lee a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Shannon, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I believe in life that it is very important to sometimes take risks, I personally call it a “leap of faith”. There are many moments in my life that I took risks while not knowing the end result. My content creation journey is one of the risk that I have taken & have not regretted. I wouldn’t consider it a major risk in my life, but I would say it was a monumental risk. Growing up, I never saw anyone take content creation seriously as a career, and that peaked my interest even more. I started this journey based off a vision. A vision that is slowly coming to past. I believe in myself and faithfully creating content knowing that it would reach the right people at the right time. Till this day, my content continues to reach a multitude of people, and that is only possible because of the risk that I’ve taken,
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hey! My name is Shannon Lee and I am a content creator. I mainly create motivational videos, life advice videos, and I share inspirational personal stories on social media platforms such as TikTok, Youtube, etc. Two and a half years ago, I made a YouTube channel during the pandemic because I was curious to venture into vlogging. I wanted to showcase my makeup skills since a lot people always asked me to teach them how to do their makeup. I knew that YouTube would be the perfect platform for me to upload makeup tutorials, so I started with that. I quickly realized that beauty wasn’t all I had to offer, so I expanded my niches as well. What sets me apart from others is that I choose to create content that I personally feel is inspiring. I believe if you are producing content, you should feel proud of what you put into the world. All my content, is well thought out and created to teach and reach others around the globe. I am most proud of the amount of people that my content has impacted. On my channel, I specifically make videos for open minded individuals that are open to discussing all aspects of life especially the uncomfortable situations. Topics such as toxic relationships, generational trauma, colorism, maturity, and depression are some of the topics that I openly discuss.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
One of my missions during my creative journey is to inspire, teach, and motivate my following. Every video that I create is carefully thought out to serve a purpose online. I never envisioned myself to not impact a mass of people with useless content. Everybody’s content is quite different, but I believe that some things should contain some sort of substance. Almost the entire population have been through an obstacle of some sort and it’s important to unpack & discuss those obstacles!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
A lot of my social media audience stems from posting and staying consistent on my platforms. I try to never go ghost on all my platforms at once! My TikTok account (@leethemotivator) is where all the content creation videos usually stem from. My audience on the TikTok app are quite receptive to the topics I talk about, but I do post videos on my Youtube and Facebook as well. Repurposing your content is also key! Always remember that thousands of people may not use one app, so always try to be flexible across multiple platforms.
