Hi Shannon, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?

The first time that I pursued this creative path professionally was 2 and a half years ago. Two years ago was near the start of the pandemic and during that time things slowed down. I thought it would be the perfect time to start a YouTube channel and start creating content. In the summer, I created my channel. Originally my YouTube channel was mainly going to be about beauty and include some fun challenges here and there. After a couple of months, I decided to change my YouTube niche a bit and add lifestyle content. The next year, I then added personal development sit down topics to discuss on my channel. During this time, I also decided to freelance model. I was always fascinated with modeling, so I decided to venture into that for a bit. Since then I’ve been in a runway show, and done some face modeling. Overall, my creative path has continued to grow.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Hello! My name is Shannon Lee and I am currently a content creator & freelance model. I specifically create YouTube videos about beauty, lifestyle, personal development topics, and I share stories about my personal life. I also freelance model from time to time. Two and a half years ago, I made a YouTube channel during the pandemic because I was curious to venture into vlogging. I wanted to showcase my makeup skills since a lot people always asked me to teach them how to do their makeup. I knew that YouTube would be the perfect platform for me to upload makeup tutorials, so I started with that. I quickly realized that beauty wasn’t all I had to offer, so I expanded my niches as well. Apart from my YouTube channel, I am a freelance model as well. I got into modeling about a year and a half ago and I thoroughly enjoyed how I can freely express myself through photography. What sets me apart from others is that I choose to create content that I personally feel is inspiring. I believe if you are producing content, you should feel proud of what you put into the world. All my content, is well thought out and created to teach and reach others around the globe. I am most proud of the amount of people that my content has impacted. On my channel, I specifically make videos for open minded individuals that are open to discussing all aspects of life especially the uncomfortable situations. Topics such as colorism, maturity, and depression has impacted some of my viewers. I do have a smaller following, but it’s quite surprising that I do receive feedback of how my content makes them feel inspired!

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?

Personally, I am still in the process of building my audience on social media, but building an audience never stops! A lot of my social media audience stems from posting and staying consistent on my platforms. I try to never go ghost on all my platforms at once! There was a point of my career that I wasn’t so consistent on my YouTube channel, but I stayed consistent on either my TikTok, Twitter, or Instagram page. The #1 key is to keep going! Don’t pay too much attention to views and do not compare yourself to others! Remember comparison is a thief of joy.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?

One thing that society can do to best support creatives is to engage! Engagement is the best way to help spread our hard work to multitudes of people. Whether it’s a like, comment, or share these actions can go a super long way!
