We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shannon Leahy a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Shannon, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, let’s imagine that you were advising someone who wanted to start something similar to you and they asked you what you would do differently in the startup-process knowing what you know now. How would you respond?
If I could go back and give myself one piece of advice when I was drowning in work, it would be this: Stop thinking you have to do it all yourself. The best decision I ever made wasn’t just hiring help—it was learning how to build a team that made my business better. I used to think hiring was just about getting things off my plate. Turns out, that’s the slow way to grow.
Shannon, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Whether I’m dancing to vinyl records with my husband and kids or designing extraordinary weddings, my approach is always rooted in joy, authenticity, and a sprinkle of magic.
With an interior designer mother, my love for detail and design started early. I blend neoclassical elegance with modern art to create timeless, boundary-pushing celebrations that reflect each couple’s unique story.
I believe wedding planning should be seamless and joyful, with every couple feeling truly understood. Guiding them with care and creativity, I craft weddings that feel like living works of art—full of meaning, connection, and unforgettable memories.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
Elise was my very first hire—a decision that marked a significant turning point for me. I knew I needed to grow, but it took a great deal of self-work to loosen my grip and trust someone else to carry part of the vision. Letting go wasn’t easy, but it was necessary. Giving someone the space to take ownership is a leap of faith—you hope they’ll rise to the occasion. And Elise didn’t just rise—she soared.
Now, a decade later, she’s become an irreplaceable pillar of my business. Her dedication, insight, and unwavering commitment have shaped so much of who we are today, and I am endlessly grateful for the day she walked through the door.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Our best source of new referrals comes from the exceptional clients we have the privilege of working with. Their trust and enthusiasm often lead them to share their experiences, bringing new opportunities our way. Additionally, the guests who attend the events we produce frequently become future clients, inspired by the creativity, precision, and emotion they witness firsthand. Ultimately, word of mouth—rooted in genuine connections and memorable experiences—continues to be the most powerful driver of our growth.
