Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shannon Dexter. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Shannon, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
One of my favorite movies is “Love Actually,” and the scene featuring “All You Need Is Love” has always been my favorite. It takes place during a wedding, where the character of Jamie (played by Colin Firth) attends the ceremony of his friend, who is getting married and as the wedding unfolds, the music begins to play, and a spontaneous sing-along breaks out.
After seeing that movie, I used to tell my family and friends that I wanted THAT moment in my own wedding. Fast forward 9 years, while getting married at the Ojai Valley Inn and Spa, my father surprised me and recreated that moment during my recessional with my husband. Watching my loved ones stand up and sing to us was a moment I will never ever forget.
When I was brainstorming names, I wanted something that encapsulated the joy and celebration inherent in events—whether weddings, parties, or corporate gatherings. The name “All You Need Is Love Events” was inspired by that moment, which for me, emphasized the idea that love and connection are at the heart of meaningful experiences.
The name reflects our philosophy that every event should foster relationships and create lasting memories. It resonates with our commitment to making each occasion special and filled with love, ensuring that every detail contributes to a joyful experience. The choice of this name also serves as a reminder to us and our clients that the essence of any gathering is the love shared among people, making it perfect for our brand identity.

Shannon, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
13 years ago I had a crazy idea that I would quit my day job and start a wedding design and planning business. I had just planned my own wedding and fell in love with the process. I could see so much potential in this line of work. At that time, I convinced a friend to start the company alongside me and we created All You Need Is Love Events out of a passion for helping brides and grooms put together the wedding of their dreams. In 2022, I took over as sole owner and operator of the company and had my biggest year to date producing multiple full-service events that span days. From starting as a team of 2 to now having a staff of amazing planners and associates, All You Need Is Love Events has grown leaps and bounds.
The main focus that I put into events is making a true connection with our clients. I love seeing how our events create memorable experiences for all. We’ve had the privilege of being part of significant milestones in people’s lives, from weddings to corporate celebrations, and knowing we contributed to those joyful moments is rewarding.
Our growth has allowed us to assemble a talented and passionate team. Watching them develop their skills, collaborate effectively, and take ownership of their roles has been inspiring. It’s a joy to foster an environment where creativity and passion thrive.Growing has challenged us to innovate and adapt. We’ve expanded our services, embraced new technologies, and found creative solutions to meet diverse client needs. This adaptability has strengthened our reputation in the industry.
The journey hasn’t always been easy, and navigating challenges has taught me invaluable lessons. Each hurdle has contributed to my resilience and equipped me to handle future obstacles more effectively.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I think one of the largest pivots I have had in this business was over the last few years. Transitioning from co-owning a business to becoming a sole proprietor was a significant shift for me, both personally and professionally. When my business partner and I decided to part ways, it brought up a lot of logistical and emotional challenges. I had to redefine roles and responsibilities, and I had to assess all aspects of the business, from finances to client relationships.
This transition was an opportunity to revisit the company’s vision and values and gave me the opportunity to define what I felt was the right way to move forward. As a sole proprietor, I had to streamline processes and decision-making. This meant creating efficient systems that allowed me to maintain quality while managing all aspects of the business, from client outreach to vendor coordination.I quickly realized the importance of having a strong support network. I sought mentorship from other business owners and built relationships with freelancers and vendors who could step in when needed, allowing me to manage the workload effectively. I have found a team that I feel truly represents what is most important to the ehtos of the company and it shows with the praise that we receive after each event. This journey fostered immense personal growth. I developed my leadership style, learned to trust my instincts, and became more resilient in the face of challenges.
Overall, while the transition was daunting, it ultimately allowed me to create a business that reflects my values and vision. It taught me the importance of adaptability, self-reliance, and the power of a strong support system in navigating change.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Delivering high-quality events consistently helped establish trust with clients and vendors. Each event was treated as a reflection of my brand, ensuring that every detail was executed flawlessly.
I think the biggest thing that I have put focus on is fostering genuine relationships with clients. Listening to their needs, providing personalized service, and maintaining open communication makes our clients feel valued and leads to positive word-of-mouth referrals.
What has also been really important is making sure to build solid relationships with reliable vendors—caterers, florists, photographers, and venues—is so important. The referrals from trusted industry partners not only expands my network but also reinforces my reputation as someone who is knowledgeable in my field.
The other thing that I find extremely important is constantly being able to seek feedback and continuously strive to improve my services. I think being open to listen to how people feel about you and how you can do better can only help your brand and further how people look at who you are.
By focusing on these elements, I feel like I have been able to build a strong reputation that attracts clients and fosters long-term relationships within the event planning community!
