We were lucky to catch up with Shannon Demos recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Shannon, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
My Mom and I are now estranged, but, when I was young, both my Mom and my Dad made sure I had the best childhood possible. My parents pushed me out of my comfort zone and encouraged me to get involved with different extracurricular activities. They supported me taking piano lessons, and eventually flute as well. I also joined a soccer league, and became involved with track among other things. Learning all of these different hobbies and paths really allowed my mind to be open to new experiences and music especially pushed me to learn more about the creative parts of myself. I’ve always been grateful for the exposure I had to the melting pot of people within California as a kid. Growing up, I was able to learn other cultural traditions, being around other races was a constant and taught me how to look at the world with an open mind. My younger years were very formative in my creative process and of course- my ethics as a person.

Shannon, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My husband is also an artist and was truly the person that really inspired me to get into my own artistic expression. I started making jewelry and it has expanded to many other things. I offer a lot of bohemian inspired pieces, often adorned with different talismans. Within my shop you can find suncatchers, jewelry, bookmarks, and wood-burnings. I make all of my art by hand and I love to make commissioned pieces as well. Commissions really push me creatively and end up being some of my favorite pieces. I take pride in my customer service, as someone who has worked for years in customer service it means a great deal for me to make every client’s experience purchasing from me, nothing less than amazing.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
The more people understand how important artists and creatives are, the better off we will be! I think it’s crucial to understand how boring the world would be if the only art we could buy was from Walmart or Amazon. Working with an artist to commission pieces just for you or shopping their store is so beneficial for everyone involved, you get a unique piece that no one else will have and you’re supporting someone’s dreams and ambitions in the process.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Especially with the commissioned pieces I’ve made, just being able to make someone’s vision come to life is so rewarding. I’ve made a few pieces to symbolize loved ones that have passed away and every time it’s such a beautiful process. It helps me work through my own grief I’ve experienced when I’m able to help others with theirs. The fact that someone wants to hang my art on their walls never ceases to amaze me, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to sell my art.
