We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Shannon Bingham. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Shannon below.
Shannon, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
We are a small businesses with under 50 employees and one of the things that we do with each and everyone of our stylists and other staff is coach them on a regular basis. We have one on one meetings with them quarterly, if not more often. We train them on the Gallup strengthfinder‘s strengths chart, so that they are able to have a greater understanding of their strengths, as we are as well. We also know then, what we can do to better communicate with them effectively. And we also have them see what their potential blind spots are.
Shannon, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I thought a young age of 26. I opened Seven salon with my business partner Nikki, and we are currently approaching our 20th year. We have effective models and processes in place that I’ve stood the test of time. We opened our business on the foundation of education, integrity, and also coaching. We have mentored hundreds of stylists over the course of our 20 years, and we continue to maintain an amazing staff and team. With a foundation of faith, the salon has been able to withstand economic crisis, and also Covid in the year 2020. Our industry requires that we become and stay educated each and every year as this industry is ever-changing so we encourage our team to go out and get education and also bring education in house. We also have a very strong training program for new stylists and apprentices to go through before they truly begin their journey. We want every stylist to be as successful as possible. As an International educator for two major manufacturers I have been able to travel all over the country and into Mexico to do classes, videos, and trainings for stylists. I’ve been able to bring this back to my culture at the salon to develop very strong and amazing stylists here locally in my town.
Do you have multiple revenue streams – if so, can you talk to us about those streams and how your developed them?
Recently, we have been able to expand our salon to now incorporate a boutique and a pretty extensive one. We have found that has really generated quite a bit of sales which has help sustain our business in time for the salon, so I may be slower. It is imperative to have multiple streams of revenue. I believe in business is to ensure that the salon or Business can remain afloat in different circumstances. Such as Covid.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
My business partner, and I worked together at a former salon. When the salon was going to close, we decided to begin a journey together. We knew we were aligned with our beliefs and our missions, and wanted to bring something new and fresh to the salon seen in our city. Now we are approaching a 20th year business together and remain friends as well as business partners.
