Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shannan Hunt. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Shannan, thanks for joining us today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later

Thinking back on my candle hobby in 2018, I believe it was a good time to start and turn it into what is is today. At times I do think if I could go back I would have started sooner. Around that time I was still finding myself. I was trying to figure out what I was passionate about outside of being a mom and a workaholic. What I could bring to the world and help others.

If I were to start sooner I believe our brand and business would be better known by now. We would be in a position to help others with our business and donate a portion of our proceeds. This has always been a goal.

Through the pandemic we learned that our particular market had grown and there are many new candle creators. More than previous years. Which made it a struggle to purchase much needed supplies. Going through this experience showed us that you should just start and don’t wait. Have a plan or a goal and go after it. You never know what tomorrow will bring.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Here at Calming Rains Candle Co. We are a family owned and operated Home and Body care company. We pride on bringing quality products that aid in creating memorable moments in your everyday lives.

What sets us apart from other companies is that we are family oriented. We offer products for home, body and personal care. Our products are continually improving. Every new candle is better than the last. Our line consists of Candles, Incense, body oils, body butters, soaps, room sprays and more.

We have been creating Candles since 2018. Just recently in 2020 we decided to bring our scents and products to your home. When developing our products we keep our consumers in mind. We steer clear of harmful chemicals and toxins that could potentially hurt you. Our company uses natural waxes, oils and butters to keep you, your family and home safe.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

In the beginning, things were great! Deciding that we were going to start on this journey was the first step. We went out to do pop-up shops. We spoke to people about our products and showed the community what we had to offer.

Soon after we started the pandemic happened. During this time there were an influx of creators. Which by all means was amazing to see so many people striving to become successful. The only thing that made it difficult for us in particular was trying to keep our supplies in stock. We are a candle company that produces containers candles. Most of our venders were out of containers. In addition, shipping which use to be a minimal expense had sky rocketed as well as the cost of supplies.

We had to figure out a way to keep our containers in stock while keeping other costs low. It was a trying time. Most days after checking our vender sites and seeing our supplies out of stock, we didn’t know how we would continue. I just knew we could not give up! I didn’t want to give up.

We bucked down and started researching other companies that we could source from. We started to purchase containers in bulk as soon as they became available on our preferred vender sites. We signed up for waiting lists. All so that we could continue on. Once you Find something you absolutely love doing, giving up on it is not an option.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

In our community of Jonesboro, we do pop up shops. I am sure of one thing, word of mouth is an amazing thing! Just by our wonderful customers reviews and sharing our products, we have come a long way.
