We recently connected with Shannan Conway and have shared our conversation below.
Shannan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
Working in the Corporate world for 22 years and having the opportunity to co-own and Director your own company comes with tons of risks. Having tons of unknowns and wearing multiple hats. I wanted to take that risk. I wanted to change the look of Senior Living. I wanted to be the voice and advocate for Senior aging adults. I know that my purpose and calling in this world is to love and serve others. I knew that I wanted to set the bar high and make sure our residents were not a dollar sign and room number. I didn’t want to wait until someone else made the decision for me. When Brett & Laura Chotkevys offered me co-ownership of Platinum Resort Assisted Living and Memory. I knew that God had answered my prayers. I get to change the life of so many and help through the process of aging and transitioning. We provide Mansion style Assisted Living with all the amenities that you would get in a large corporate Assisted Living. Brought to you in a home environment. When you walk through our doors you can feel the love and laughter. The risk was greater than saying no and taking the easy route. One of the biggest risks I’ve ever taken, is taking on managing and taking partial ownership of Platinum Resort. It has been one of my biggest and scariest accomplishments I’ve ever faced. Starting Platinum Resort from the ground up, being involved from the literal demolition all the way to Grand Opening and getting it up and running, has been difficult, yet the most rewarding. This is such a huge risk because, who knows if a business is going to be successful, it’s like you’re all in and you dive in head first! Not having someone do all the work for you. You have to start with nothing and create a product that serves a huge population and in our local community. Keep your morals and values at the top of your list and hold yourself accountable. Having Grit to pull through all the challenges that pop up at the last moment. Thankfully for my partners Brett and Laura ( also Co-Owners) we’ve been in the same boat as well, by moving to another state to launch Platinum Resort Assisted Living. They took the risk not only on me. They picked up their two small children and moved to Texas. The three of us took the risk to walk up a mountain together and build a business that gives purpose to life. After joining forces not only do we own one business together we now have started a second business.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Shannan Conway, CDP , CALM Director and Co-Owner at Platinum Resort Assisted Living and Memory Care.
I have worked in the Industry for 22 years. I started my way from the bottom to top. I started out as a CNA, Med Tech, Team Lead, Resident Care, Coordinator, Memory Care Director, and now co-owner and Director.
I have my Dementia Practitioner and Calm Certified in the State of Texas.
My biggest achievement in starting this business aside from raising my children is having all of the rooms at Platinum Resort occupied before construction was completed with a waiting of 15 before the building was completed. The ceiling was falling through and was piled on the floor but I could sell my heart and that filled our home with clients.
Laura Co-Owner and myself have volunteered/ attended over 300 events in our local community. Giving 10 fold back to our community. We want to be the hands and feet of Jesus.
How’d you meet your business partner?
Laura and Brett Chotkevys were looking for someone not just to help run and manage Platinum Resort but someone who also shared the same vision, mindset, and drive as them. After a few weeks a proposal was offered, I finally took the leap of faith and decided it’s now or never! We’ve been working alongside each other for 2 years now.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Laura and I started documenting funny videos and posting them on social media. My favorite video is when Laura jokingly power washed me to cool me down during the hot summer of 2020. All while construction was being done. We tend to receive messages from the senior community acknowledging they have their notifications on just for us. We also attend networking meetings throughout the area, and enjoy hosting events all through the Central Texas Senior Community. Volunteering and being on multiple boards.
